Exclamation Beware: Illegal Porsche being sold!!!!!!

Hello everyone. This is a notice from a friend of mine that use to be on the
944S list. Please read below. It's important

Rudy Rodriguez
KC Porsche Club Driving Activities Chairman
968 and 944S
Rennlist #010626-27XX
On the seventh day, God created high-end audio, Porsche automobiles, and
fine Swiss wristwatches...and it was good

> Hello Officer Rudy maister:
>
> This Rafael Robles, I'm emailing you to ask for a favor. If you could
please tell the listers, heck tell the Rennlist community about my former
Claudia (944S). I sold her to my mechanic, but he ran out out money and
patience, when he realized that the car needed both cams. He sold the car to
a dealer in the Tampa area, where they installed S2 cams, fair enough. But
they also moved back the odo to 78K from the 99K that had when I sold her. I
try to informed the authorities, here in FL, but since the vehicle is an 87,
they said while yawning that anything over 10 yrs is "out of the statute
parameters".

> Please tell them that the car is on Autotrader.com vin #WPOAAO949HN451420,
> and that if anyone wants to contact me via email, can do so. I have dealer
maintenance receipts that state that the milaege in the odo is incorrect, so
I know that the moment the car gets taken to an official dealer, the next
owner will find out about.

Unfortunately the authorities are right. Although highly unethical it is not technically illegal to roll back odometers on cars this old.

This is why we are lucky to have CarFax.

Caveat emptor.

This is awesome. A community that warns people about cars that are in an uncertain condition. This is even before we consider even buying that car.

Totally cool..

I wonder why they'd bother doing it for so few miles? Why not 50,000? Weird.

With 50k miles you would expect a great looking car...consider what defects your car has and then divide that by two...by turning back to 70k miles, whoever looks at the car will see that the interior is so-so and would expect higher things from the motor..

Anybody buying one should be weary of the odo's on these cars. They are SOOO easy to modify. When my odo gear blew I bought a whole new/used speedo, and when I wanted to adjust it to the ~150+kmiles that it should have I realized how easy it was. I adjusted it from ~65k to 150k with no hassle. My old speedo doesn't have a gear yet, but it is sitting in my spare parts pile with 0 miles on it. Now, what would an 88 944 with 0 miles be worth... "honest, this car has never been driven!"

On Ford Rangers and Mazda trucks you can pull a fuse which will stop the odometer from clicking. Weird. I had to pull it on mine because the bell that goes off WOULDN'T stop when I shut the door, and it gets annoying after 30 mins. Weird that it would be the same fuse as the odometer.

Thanks for the heads up!
