Question Some guy keeps hitting my car door!

On three occasions my alarm went off and by the time I got out to the car, nothing! I had it parked in a space that only one car can park next to. Well the alarm sound echos off the buildings so I figured it was another car alarm. As I was washing the car I noticed 3 dents in the passenger door (coinsidence?) one dent has three marks rather than the usual dent a car door makes and noticed the car that parked next to mine has the side molding on the Pontiac GP. It has a large molding that fits the three little marks on my car. I can't prove he did this but I am certain he did! Question is, how to get this damage taken care of? Call the cops and report it? Confront him and ask? Or set him up for another try at hitting it so I can get proof? I really don't want to claim this on my insurance and shouldn't have to. Or should I settle the matter with a ball bat and his windows!!(that's not my prefered method!)All three occassions his car was next to mine. I can sense this guy is **** Retentive and if confronted would deny and probably throw a punch! HELP! What should I do? I have since relocated the car and no alarms! THX! One guy in an old Volvo 240 did the same thing to my car a couple of months ago. So I backed my car out of the parking spot and the took good aim on his door with a full force kick that ended up in a dent twice the size of my foot...

I felt reaaaaaaly good for the rest of the day, my mother (who was waiting in my car at the time) didn´t really mind since someone drove in to her car so that she couldn´t open the backseat door earlier this year on the same parking lot. I´m never going to park my Porsche there again.

On the other hand, I don´t think I´ll do anything similar again...

Just wait for him and ask him if he did it. Look in his eyes. If he admits it, tell him he has to do the right thing.

This is simple - just lie!!! I'm sure that guy would if you confronted him.

Either say it's not your car and you were borrowing it and feel bad it was hit - tell him it's your mothers or younger brothers (whatever it takes to make him more compassionate) or simply tell him you saw him doing it (or someone who looked like him in a similar car). If he denies it, back that up by saying you were far away and perhaps it wasn't him, but you just wanted to make sure.

That way there are no punches thrown, no broken windows, etc, etc.

Just a suggestion - but, if your morals prevent you from doing this, you're a bigger person than me

While it's good to park where only one car can park next to you, it doesn't help much if it's your passenger side that's unprotected. All cars have drivers, but not all cars have passengers. If you can, find a spot where your driver's side is unprotected - less likely that someone will clip you. And no, you can't just back into the parking space - defeats the purpose!

As for what to do. I'd be pissed off, but I'd also just move the car to another location. You know who did it, but you'll never prove it. Confronting an **** retentive personality will get you no where. Might start a fight, might start a pissing contest, but most likely won't get anything positive done. You also run the risk of the guy doing additional damage when you're not looking - like keying the car.

Still, if you want some none invasive revenge - let the air out of one of his tires. Don't stick the tire or anything, just let the air out. DISCLAIMER: You didn't hear this from me and I don't advocate it.

ball his windows ....no no ....thats all wrong ......ball bat him!!! after the 5th swing i can guarantee he'll admit to it.....and the brinks robbery heheheheh

disclaimer: that was a joke!!!!

well it seems to be repeatitive, i'd park in the same spot as usual an leave a video camera recording in the car w/ tape over the recording led, turn your sensitivity up on your bump sensor on your alarm. the trap is set.....once you have evidence your car is now a concours classic that needs an entire body to be remolded from porsche by the acestors of original production workers. well maybe thats a stretch but it will be the fulcrum in the arguement....also blurt out about your brother being a hotshot lawyer. best of luck

Cool

icat, That is my take on it to the letter! I AGREE! Well I did move the car to the speed shop(racecar prep and delivery) but had to park at home waiting for a spot at the shop to open up. It's safe now! But it still PISSES me off for the lack of respect idiots have towards property P Car or not! The car is in great condition and I haven't had the maintainence horrors as most Listers,$$$$$ so I will fix them myself and chock it up as a lesson on humanity! and get some body experience to boot! Thanks! D

Sauerkraut - you have a 300 hp Tr-7??? Cool!!

I had a Tr-7 as my first car. I now have the forearms of Popeye from pushing it all the time!!

Damn Lucus wiring!! Hit a bump and who knows what will happen next.

Loved that lil' car though. Always wanted a Tr-8.

How do you like the Tr-7??? I'm guessing it's very fast.....

You do that around some of my friends, and they will cut off the very foot you used to kick with... no really.. they will. You over
react, and someone will do the same back to you.

Door dings happen. Confront the guy, ask him to be more careful, and move on. If it bothers you, spend the $50 for the geek at Dent Wizard to take out the dent.

Well, while I'm not an advocate of violence, or of destroying someone else, I'd confront him. You get one of two things, he admits it and pays (oh he WILL PAY), or he gets pissed (as you said he would), and throws a punch, and you get the pleasure of getting your revenge the ol' fashioned way.

Or, you completely mis-judge the guy, he denies everything, plays it off, becomes your boss in 6 months, and FIRES YOUR ***.

But hey, you can't plan for EVERYTHING.

944boyee... the cars a load of fun but its been and im sure will continue to be a nightmare. i came home on my 16th birthday w/ a license and that car and my father was like nooooo!!! but he had one when i was a small kid so i blamed him for it (he also had a guards 951, funny how that stuff influences you). it now has the buick version of the tr8 motor in it, which are very easy to make fast. i'm afraid of really pushing the car because its still a triumph trans and i already chewed it up when i was younger, which was extremely costly to rebuild. i plan on swapping the trans to a t56....but then i'll need a rear....and so on. w/ the 951 there are great aftermarket upgrade parts which have been fully designed and engineered, for the 7 everything is custom fab. (i was about to buy a big brake kit for the car, when i cross referenced the parts they were from a ford tempo heheheheh) all that said i still love the car, theres no better feeling than going down to the storage shed and hearing that 215 cid growl through monza glasspacks. (where the $1200/yr to store it doesnt feel so good)

1. Buy a used pick ax.

2. Place firmly through his hood.

3. The end.

This is absolutely insane. I don't know who is the bigger idiot here in this story... the mom or the kid, I am assuming this is a kid by the action taken.

If I damaged someone elses property like that in front of my Mom she would have kicked a dent in me.... well maybe not literally but she certainly would not have cheered me on because of an unfortunate event that happend to her in the past.

I have often wondered how these people get the way they are and now it is painfully obvious...
they are a product of poor parental supervision and upbringing. sheeesh.

I'd confront the guy. A couple of things can happen:
1. If he swings at you, make sure he makes contact. It's easier with proof of physical violence to sue. Just don't swing back: take a punch and get $$: quite simple really.

2. If he denies he did it, line up his car with yours, open his door, and show him the perfect match. If he still denies it, take digital pictures and ask for his insurance papers. IF he denies that, then write down his license plate and tell him your insurance company will be in touch with him. If at this point he takes a swing at you, see #1.

3. If he says it was him, then try to get the matter resolved without insurance. Tell him you'll get two estimates, and will go with the lower one and get the car repaired. (Note: at this point, it isn't necessary to go for the throat: you just want your car repaired, and if he's willing to pay, get it done at a decent cost to him)

Whatever you do, don't damage his car! What if he has a camcorder rigged up, or sees you messing with his car? Then you're at fault and will have to pay.

If you do confront him, you may want some witnesses around just in case. With a camcorder, like Rodney King's buddies....

Just my $0.42

Hah, seems repetative but here's my story...
Back in high school a girl was parking her camry and put a white scratch on my car from the bumper end cap to the wheel. Two days after the car came back to me, I am walking to my car and see someone parked less than a foot away from me (gave me that sick gut feeling). Turns out, somebody had been in the passenger side of the other car and hit my car door with theirs (my 944S does not have the bumper guards on the doors), so there was a nice dent/scratch on the door with the paint still stuck to the car (like when you grate cheese)...So i turn around and placed my boot into this SOB's car a few times.

POTS - kicking the car ended up giving me temporary satisfaction, but after realizing what i was kicking (Mazda 626 that looked like it went through a hailstorm, hurricane, wall, etc.) the joy turned back to anger. So, if you need to relieve yourself by damaging someones property (especially someone who obviously doesn't value his auto since they absent-mindedly throw open doors), the act probably won't put the same effect on the other person as you would like it to.

My two...or fifty rather....cents.
-Robert D.
