Post loud exhaust

my exhaust is very loud, however its stock. I looked at the pipes today and the records the car came with the the exhaust looks great and is pretty much new from the records. Only thing that i found is the tube missing. The one in the picture below. This would cause an exhaust leak correct?my question is...if i find a tube like that and put it on how will the exhaust leak stop?doesn't it just go out the top of the tube anyway?

That is your 02 sample tube, don't realy need it just cap the hole with a lug nut. <img src="graemlins/burnout.gif" border="0" alt="[burnout]" />

What year is your car?

Don't think the pre 85.5's had the tube.

If you have the steel tubing headers these split in the crux of the Y and get real noisy. Reason for spliting is worn engine mounts that let the cat header pipe twist the engine headers.

You can usually get them welded but they will crack again if you have the other problems.
