Default side view mirror replacement

Does anyone know if a 83 and 86 944 side mirrors are the same. My passenger side glass is broken on the 83. I have a 86 that has good glass but is a different color housing. I need to just change the glass. I did do a search but did not find much info other than someone said it was a difficult job.

not sure about the interchangeability, but if you arent using the driver side mirror...just the glass..., will you sell it to me? (mine is broken too!!).

The drivers side is broke already. From my research so far a lot of people just glue one on. That is what I will do if they are not interchangeable.

Your right, they are increasingly being thought of as classics. For that reason I think good examples have a huge upside over the next 5 years. The Datsun Z's look like they have increased nicely as of late, hopefully the 944 series will soon take off.

i completely agree with that. my new neighbor has got a totally stock orange 240Z, and it is incredible. so incredible.

it's not as nice as this one though

They are not interchangeable. I went through this earlier this year. Bought a spare mirror from an 84' and tried to use it on my 87' and the mounting on the back of the mirror to hold it in the housing is different.

I guess what I could do is take the glass off the 86 and just glue it to the 83 glass. I will have to measure to see if they are the exact same shape and diameter.

Update". Went to remove the broken glass and was surpised to see it glued to perfectly good glass. Went to the driver side and removed the after market glass, same thing. Why would someone glue aftermarket glass over perfectly good factory glass with messy ugly silicone? Just need to remove rest of silicone now. What works best, soaking with Wd40?
