That's pretty much what I figured.

All the same, the S2000 is obviously a nice car, and at a pretty good price considering it's track ability.

If only it wasn't one of the many cars I can't fit into, I would maybe consider it one day.

Sam.

JZR,

A stock 951 is capable of holding it's own against a stock Honda S2000. Doug Hayashi (of NSX files fame) ran a best time in his race group of 1:41 (not a 1:27 which is pure fantasy, maybe Danno meant a 1:37?) in January of this year. The S2000 car was stock but had race tires. See the results I pulled from Dougs web site (NSX files) below. Also check out the link and read the article of him racing 914's and Miatas in his S2000.

<a href="http://www.nsxfiles.com/stories.htm" target="_blank">http://www.nsxfiles.com/stories.htm</a>

As for my current car it has not yet been on the other tracks yet. But my old 86 951 ran a 1:40.xx at WSIR big track in 1995 totally stock equipped with Koni Yellows, and Dunlop street tires the very first time I ran it there. Experienced 944 pilot Tony Morelli ran a 1:39.xx with a dead stock 87 951 on street tires in 1996 so you can see a stock 217hp 951 is right in there with Doug in his S2000.

Later I put on those Weltmeister 250lb front springs, and 30mm torsion bars. This setup I was never happy with at all. All suspension mounts were stock, and Yokohama A008R tires which yielded a 1:37.xx in 1996 on my 4th lap. I then went off in turn 8 at 100+mph after running through oil so I'll never no how fast it could have gone. The car was later totalled on the 57 freeway.

The new car is essentially a Stock TS with JME chips, Koni yellows w/350lb coil overs and camber plates. Rear T-bars are stock TS, but I have the cup car adjustable rear sway bar. Wheels are stock TS and tires are Dunlop Sp8000 street tires. That set up feels good but it's not perfect, the tires being the big weakness. I don't think I'll be able to hit the track until later this year and by then it will be a full cup suspension.

Whoops, sorry I did mean a 1:37 for Doug (wasn't a typo). Anyway, I was trying to make a comparison on cars in stock configuration. It comes down to upgrading the 951s, since in stock trim, they're hopelessly behind. Even Derrek Bell didn't do better than 1:44 in a Turbo or 1:41 in a TurboS.

A race-prepped 951 is definitely a super-high performance car. Using WSIR as an example, Chris Cevelli did some insanely fast time of 1:24 or some such. Dave from RealRide got a 1:29 in their 944s as well.

Hey, I just noticed that the top 3 finishers in that race above were HONDAs! Reminds me of an event at the Streets of Willow Springs course back last August. There was a Viper GTS and RX-7TT in my group that was giving me a hard time. I was on street tires and they were spitting flames at me as they passed me. I was about 3-4 seconds behind them and all of a sudden this little yellow right-hand drive yellow CRX with an ITR motor passes us ALL OF US!!!

By the way guys, just to close this loooooong thread out...she bought the TT after all!!!!

It's a 2001 Quattro 225HP with only 7800 miles. Pristine condition, about $7000 cheaper than an identical 2002 on the lot. Lake Siler with the optional polished wide five spoke 17's and Xenon lights (yup, I don't like them either).

I like the car though. It's a completely different car than the Honda though. For her, I think this will be the better car. More room, plenty of power (too much?...for her?) and nicer styling in her opinion. And, hey, she's paying for it so my opinion doesn't matter much. Thanks for all your opinions. They were great to read. -Dan
