Picture of a Busch Header

hey skip did you install the headers on your car??? Did you have to replace any exhaust studs??? I'm looking into getting some still but i'm weary about replacing those if they break.

Yup, installed on my 89 2.7. I replaced all of the exhaust studs, but did not break any. They came out fairly easily after a few hours soaking in penetrant (PB Blaster). Just used the old fashioned double-nut technique... then saw the special tool in a snap-on catalog a week later Ah well... yet another lesson in futility

Ok Stupid question.
What does this headder give you over the stock headder?
Is it worth the money on a daily driver?
Will it work with and existing Cat system?
"Not Cat back"
Thanks

Honestly, not much... I think we can all agree that Porsches aren't made by mindless apes (chimps maybe, certainly not apes though). They did a good job, but they also concern themselves with emissions, life-cycle, and other such performance robbing practices. The aftermarket headers are lighter and flow better than stock. How much difference does this make? Hard to tell, unless you have the time_and_money to dyno a set of cars whilst only changing the header, then perform the test again by dyno-tuning the car to_the header. On the na cars this is much less important than the Turbos, as we just can't blow that much exhaust.
The bigger question is how the WHOLE exhaust system affects the output. I ran with the stock header, gutted cat, and Supertrapp for about 2 years... then switched to my current Bursch header, dual *muffler*, 2.5" custom job and couldn't believe the difference. Contrary to popular belief, NA cars do_not need a whole lot of backpressure... more than a Turbo, yes... just not a whole lot. My system is almost ZERO restriction... and I have more torque AND top-end than ever before. Dyno'd at 143HP, 158TQ at the wheels, SAE corrected, blah-blah.

Daily driver is vague... how agressive are you? I'd say yes... my 944 is still a road-car, though not my daily driver.

Yes, but they are all a bit different, and will require at_least one weld (stock system needs to be fitted with standard 3-bolt flange) to fit to the stock system (unless you run the Bursch header AND test-pipe).
Good Luck!

Not yet, probably won't. I didn't have the time to do it and still make my first event this year. Also, the cost of coating is nearly half the cost of the header... so the longer-life thing just doesn't bridge the gap for me. The car sees very little inclimate use, so the heat issue is the only thing I might consider beneficial. As long as the header does not rust, I can always get it done later. I did VHT it though.

Skip what are your mods on your 944? I am dynoing at 131 hp at the wheels and 139 tq with Nology ignition, K&N cold air intake and a Dynomax Magnum exhaust with no headers and stock cat? I had also even kicked up the fuel enrichment by another 3% at the time... lemme know your secret!

Check my spec sheet for engine mods list [site is under reconstruction, most links do not work yet]:
<a href="http://home.att.net/~projekt944/specs.htm" target="_blank">Projekt 944 - Specs</a>
The 89 2.7 put out ~162HP, ~166TQ [at the engine]. Using 15% drivetrain loss - this puts me at ~168HP, ~186TQ [at the engine]
