Oh yea don't heads always need a re-torque after 100K miles? Does this guy have bills/receipts to prove he was the original owner? He should have a thick folder full of them...

S cat back has the pre-resonator. Plus it's rarer.
I paid ~$800 for a nice dansk years ago. I assumed they'd be a bit more. But I just looked and even automotion is now showing them for only ~$400 somehow.

I think the S engine sounds great at 7K dumping straight out the headers with a ball of blue flame but.... if you like the resonator haha!

Thanks guys. Exactly the kind of great info and responses that I have experienced over on the Boxster forums. This has been really helpfull. No matter what we decide on this one, we are a bit more knowledgable about what to look for/expect. Thanks to everyone who replied.

One more thing......how are these puppies in the snow (just in case...)?

Got winter tires? Then you're good.

Running something else? You're not going far.

If the car were here local to me, I would jump on it. Knowing it will need head work.

My white smoke near redline on my S was bad valve stem seals. My car had 166K on it when I had the head redone. No more smoke with new seals. I couldn't see the smoke from the driver's seat, either--only people following me could tell. I doubt it had anything to do with sitting out one winter. It reminds me of people who think that ALL OF A SUDDEN both of their taillights went out when they'd been driving around for a year with only one and nobody told them.

Check for coolant in the oil and vice versa. Clean on both accounts...buy the car.

I paid $3300 for an unknown S...I'd buy that car for the hell of it. Go through his receipts and see what's been done. Expect to do the belts when you get it, which should take you around 4 hours. Check everything else while you're there. My head re-do including cleaning, resurfacing the deck and reassembling was $520 with tax. Throw in $150 more for timing chain tensioner pads and $125 for the head gasket set with everything else and you're pretty much done. Everything else is essentially the same as a regular 944. If you're mechanically inclined there's nothing to fear--people on the internet have done EVERYTHING to a 944 and much is written. Obviously paying someone to service the car can get pricey, but your Boxster is WAY more complex than a 944...dig in.

extreme caution when buying a 944 unless you plan on keeping it for life...

plan to drop big time/money in one if you plan to daily drive it for the long term....
