Whenever you do the nail trick, make sure you drill two holes in the filter wrench. That way you put the wrench on the filter, and nail the nail through one end of the filter and out the otherend through the wrench. That way you dont risk destroying the filter. Believe me, it is very VERy easy to destroy the filter without support from the cap.

PS. I have only had these problems with OEM PORSCHE MANN filters. The Mahle filter come off like a charm.
