Angry sloppy shifting........STILL!

well, i replaced the little bushing at the base of my shifter, hoping to solve my sloppy shifting problem, however, there is NO difference in shifting. the original one didnt seem warn, and neither did the metal shifter itself.......what other options do i have???

It most likely is the shift arm on the tranny. This would be a good time to go with a short shift kit!

sounds good to me.....any idea how much the shift arm to tranny runs, or where the best spot to get it would be?

I went with the Autothority Short Shift. 15 min install, super easy, and it works great. (well.. shifting in the garage that is)

It was $150ish from Paragon a while back.

Most of the slop shifting in 944s are in the shifter where it connects to the transmission linkage rod. The round metal which sticks out of the shifter once you remove the **** wears out and causes 90+ percent of the sloppy shifting. Instead of it being a cylinderical shape, it becomes elliptical. The bushing has never been a problem for me. I don't know how to post pictures or I would send you a picture of the part I am talking about.

My experience was similar to LegoLand951...the rod on my shifter didn't look terribly bad, but the replacement made an immense difference in the shifting...

if it's not the linkage at the tranny, it's very likely to be the shifter itself. The barrel shaped protrusion that attached to the rest of the linkage is not the strongest piece of metal and becomes oval shaped.

I think I paid about $38 for the shift lever on the web at carpartstogo:

You may need a new plastic bushing...mine broke when I tried to take it off the old shifter...
