Default 924S/944T trans, same?

What are the differences? Will an 87 924S be ok in a 944T? If not, does anyone have a 944T trans they could part with? Im looking at a 944T with a bad 2nd syncro for a good price and it's local. If I can get it for the price I want then I will bring her home. I know that the 2nd syncro is a common issue and would like to save time by just installing another trans while I save for a rebuilt unit or rebuild the original. I plan on doing the clutch and repack the CV's and doing the boots for good measure at the same time as the trans swap so no worries there...

I dont mind wrenching on the car as it will be a third car and will likely be parked for the winter regardless.

opinions?

early trans or 924s trans does not have the speedo pickup sensor- so your speedo would not work. But technically yes the trans will fit and work to move the car.

The trans is from an 87 924S (stamping is...cannot really distinguish first digit so we'll go with 3 as that is what it looks like 3K 20057, so it's from an 87) so the ad says... will it work and still have a speedo with the proper gear ratios?

if its from a 924s it will not work- as they had the early interior and use a front wheel drive speedo cable. No trans speedo drive. 924s was made 86-87 IIRC.
