Thumbs up PPI Results

I had the '87 951 that I am looking at inspected today. The only items that raised an eyebrow were the following:

- left front ball joint cover is torn (original control arms)
- very light seepage at rear main seal (front seal replaced 10,000 miles ago)
- slight seepage at right side of steering rack (replaced 10,000 miles ago)

Anything that should make me walk away? The car has 95,000 miles on it and has had $15,000 in repairs/replacements over the past 15,000 miles. According to Vision Motorsports, the car has had "above average maintenance". The car is in very good condition and has obviously been cared for. Thoughts?

None of those itms are major, but they will probably need attention before long. New control arms are, what, $400 each? Not sure what it costs for a rear seal.

Who did your PPI? Is Vision the seller or your PPI mechanic? Do they know 951s? You can spend $15,000 and still have to spend lots more.

Be sure whoever did the PPI is knowledgable about 951s. That goes for the dealer too. Most of our cars were new back when the wrenches were graduating from elementary school, so thier knowledge about these cars can be quite limited.

Doesn't sound bad, if it is in good shape. How much?

The seller is not Vision Motorsports, they simply did the PPI. They seem to know about 951's, I received the recommendation from a Rennlister.

The car is listed at $13,500, we have verbally agreed on $13,000 prior to the inspection. I am trying to get him down to $12,500 based on the tires needing replacement ASAP. The car is in excellent condition with many items replaced recently. 95,000 miles total. New turbo, new exhaust, new steering rack, complete top-end rebuild 10,000 miles ago including seals, hoses, etc. New radiator, water pump. He has spent quite a bit to bring the car to its current condition.

Most importantly, the seller seems very trustworthy and not someone who ragged on the car. I think that speaks volumes, more than anything else.
