Default Gas Mileage Question

Hi everyone,
What range of gas mileage do you get with your 944 in the city? Or on the freeway/highway?

Thanks in advance.

I seem to get any where from 26 to 30 mpg, unless I hit the track, then it goes way way way down. But otherwise it's pretty good.

About 22-24mpg overall and about 27+ on the highway if max speed is about 65MPH. If above 70MPH it doesn't matter...

Tire air pressure is important.

You can increase your mileage by professionally cleaning the injectors---www.witchhunter.com.
Cleaning injectors is one of the cheapest ways to improve/return the cars performance.

Do not waste your time and go to a garage that will "Clean the Injectors" on the car. It is a waste of money. You can do this for a couple of cans of good cleaner for the same results----usually none.

Old injectors are probably 6-18% or more below new/cleaned injector performance if origninal.

+1 on clean injectors, keep tires inflated, and keep your foot light and you will get good mileage. swap in a turbo gearbox and they get better.

highway MPG on a 944 seems fairly independent of cruising speed in my experience. i once drove from san diego to santa cruz, with the ac on in the middle of the summer, and got 29mpg average on "open highway"

LA to Santa Cruz on I 5 @ 86/90 mph = 27 mpg with the NA 944.
La to Santa cruz on I 5 @ 90/95 mph = 24mph with the 951 turbo.

I usually get about 17mpg around the city in my S2. I've had the injectors done, replaced the O2 sensor, new air filter, new plugs, new cap and rotor -- still the same. Stock chip AFAIK. I've just stopped worrying about it for now.

19.0 on my first tank and 19.5 on my second tank, but it was "spirited" driving with a lot of "stop-n-go"

My 1983, 944 5 speed DD is easily returning 22.5+ mpg cross city commute. The Syracuse area I commute in is not real bumper to bumper, stop & sit, but still many stop lights and no place in my commute is speed limit over 45 either, hardly ever in 5th gear it seems.

On my trips I got darned near 30 highway, with the high 5th gear used. The full tank range is 350+ per tank for me and seldom do I see the yellow low light, and that is almost 2.5-3 weeks between fillups. So I seldom get a real check of long highway tank use...Oh and I do not flog it.

If my right foot isn't in it all the way to the kneecap, probably 28 to 30 MPG on the highway. Otherwise... not so good.
