hood lever / latch broken
well the autocross was fun but now my hood lever inside the car doesnt open the hood, it seems like its completely detached from the cable connected to the back but i havent figured out how to get the thing off to check yet. just wondering.. how do i get it off? and when i do what could be broken back there..? could it just be disconnected from the lever or could some plastic clip have broken (which means i need to go find a new one)? umm .yea.. thats all that broke i think thanks for any help!

Mine just broke too... the latch broke out of the plastic holder thingy. I took the whole thing out to discover the holder was cracked in a couple different places. I'm gluing it back together now, hopefully everything will hold. I remember seeing a replacement part online at one point, but now I can't find it.
I was also wondering if it would be possible/worth it to try and get to the hood release mechanism under the hood and lube it up. Seems like if it was easier to release the hood, then I wouldn't be as likely to break the thing trying to open it. Anyone know about this?
Thanks!

Hi - good luck if trying to reglue this - think only a new one will work (but they are cheap and available from Porsche dealers). Putting the whole thing together is a bit of a jigsaw puzzle....there are allen (hex) bolts which you get to through small holes in the outer cover....shouldn't need to pull too much carpet off...email me if you need further details...fp944s2@hotmail.com

alrighty.. i pulled the carpet off enough to pull the release handle out, the cable is still attached to it, i dont think i could break it off if i tried. i held the black part of the cable with something and pulled on the wire inside of it (with the handle) as hard as i could, nothing. i push it in and out and hear a click clank under the hood. does this mean that the mechanism under there is broken for sure? or maybe something is making it stick? now i need to raise the car and open it from underneath? crap =/ time to take it to a mechanic.. how sad is this.

wait a minute, this mechanism works in a way that pushing the cable in opens the hood? not pulling it like the rear one? so uh.. when i push it in a hear the latch kind of... i wonder how long i can drive around without checking my oil...

well after having a friend push down and pull up on the hood while pulling on the cable it finally came loose and opened! yes! im gonna go get some WD40 and grease up that latch hole and hope that it keeps on operating.. seems like its very hard to get it to open.. have to pull hard on the cable.. but it does open.. i think all the grease is just gone.. and the end of the cable where the bolt is looks rusty but... its still in one piece. thanks for the help everyone. if anyone has a suggestion as to what to spread in that hole instead of wd40 please.. by all means.. tell me
i think i need to grease up those rear hatch locks too.. they like to get sticky and stop moving

great... all greased up.. pulling on the cable opens the hood.. now how the heck do i re-assemble the release lever? put the open hole part on the spindle and hit it as hard as i can to get it to snap together?

Got out my BIG flashlight and popped off the cover to the release lever. It is a split pin (roll pin) and it will have to be driven into place. Just gently drive the pin into the release cable end. Did you work some oil or silicon spray into the release cable? WD40 works great for breaking rust loose put it tend to disappear over time.
Boy, taking the top cover off the release lever required a LOT of force...I thought I was going to break it.

yea i thought i was going to break it too... but eventually it popped off.. and now its just dangling there (the handle) with the cable attached to it. i hope you didnt go pulling yours apart just for me.. and if you did.. thanks.. and i hope you got it back together... i was thinking of pulling off the top piece of plastic attached to the carpeting but then i dont think i could get the carpeting back into it..
you know... these cars were really not meant to be reverse engineered

The top part will pull off, just apply preasure were the top part overlaps the bottom piece, do one side at a time with a standard screw driver. It isn't that hard to put it back on, I just did...just push it back in.
I don't think you can assemble it to the cable without taking the top piece off.

ah ha... my housing is broken... for the lever.. this piece right here
actually is broken right here
what a crappy design, this piece of plastic is going to break every time i open my hood if i get a new one.. the force required to open the hood is tremendous. is it just my hood? i really have to pull on it hard to open it.. so when i stick the cable back in this little plastic tube its just going to break it off .. oh well.. at least its only $4.25.
