Exclamation Ebay advice, CYA, etc... help

So I blew a rear tire and I decided to buy a whole new set of tires and rims. I've sold on E-bay before but never purchused. Is there any advice you rennlisters can give on how to keep from getting riped off, things to look for, etc... I just wanna make sure I don't get ripped and end up with some egg shaped wheels... and flat tires.

The best thing that you can do it look at the persons feedback rating. Check and see what other people have said about them and their sales. Even if a person has great feedback, you might not always get what you expect, thats just the way ebay is.

You could check the seller's feedback file, also if they have done lots of transactions you stand a better chance of not getting ripped off.

roberto the best thing you can do is pay by CREDIT CARD!! That way if something happens, you have recourse. Good Luck ken

Ask questions about the item(s) and be specific. If the seller dodges your questions or gives you vague answers stay away.

paying by credit card works great, but so do money orders. the key benefit there being that if you get ripped off, it's mail fraud and a hefty federal crime. can be a pain to get a postal investigation going, but if you do get ripped off they will get a bigger punishment from the postal service by far.

anyway, go for someone with good feedback and who seems to know what they're selling. chances are if they don't know the part at all they probably don't care about the sale in any way.

I just sold a set of wheels to someone and they wanted to use escrow.com. It worked great for both parties.

A set of rules is agreed to by both parties. Escrow confirms the funds and holds them. The buyer gets a predetermined amount of time for inspection. In the end the funds are dispersed to the seller. If the seller doesn't take the merchandise it is returned. Buyer doesn't get his money until the merchandise is returned. Pretty safe.

Still, it would be wise to check for feedback.

I've bought a lot of stuff, Porsche related and otherwise, from eBay and had only one incident of the part not being as it was represented. My first thought was that I was screwed. But an e-mail to the seller and he told me, if you don't like it, send it back and I'll gladly return your money. I did, he did and it was all good. I'll just second the idea that feedback is the best way to judge a potential seller. <img src="graemlins/xyxwave.gif" border="0" alt="[bigbye]" />
