Unhappy its a sad sad day

Well this may not apply to you guy's sateside, but this has been my experience, how's it for yall...

Me and 16 about this am, driving, doing the croosin thing.

Waving and flashing at every Porsche I saw today, which was quite a
few !

However not one sorry git replied and who were the culprit's
yes our very own Water cooled brigade 2 944's and a a blue 968 CS
I expect this kind of rudeness from the "so called elitist 911
brigade" so if you were dring today on the M4 or aorund BErkshire and
ignored me "for shame !!"

I must admit since owning 16, I've often flashed or waved and the
ratio tends to be about 20:1 that is 1 wave back for 20 given

I will always get looks from "all" porsches usually directed at 16's
logo but not a one will reply a flash nor have I yet been flashed
first !

Last week i managed to pull along side a 44 near the Crooked Billet
in Iver and tried to catch the guys eye (a middle aged couple) and he
didnt even look over

I must say this is disapointing, when I used to drive my Capri, (and
certainly in the last 5 years of having her) I alway's got waves,
flashes etc. Regradless of where I was , time or date ! I even had
one enthusuastic passenger lead out of her window and wave
frantically at me with a massive grin on her face on the M25.

It's these little things which also make you feel part of "the
familly"

I may have to just give up and not flash any more.

Don't give up. To that 1 person that does wave back, YOU are the 1 in 20. where would they be without you?

If you happen to flash or wave at a dark blue 944 starting nib5 you will definately get a response - but as I often drive an old Honda (the stalks are the other way round) you may see the windscreen wipers going instead - I hope you would know what I mean. Anyway, consider this a wave in type form.

I remember the day after I bought the car I got beeped by a white 944 while filling up at a small petrol station near Ware in Herts - I thought that this would be the norm (sadly it isn't) but it is still nice when it happens.

Wink

Please don't think all 911 owners are elitist. I wave at any and every Porsche I see. Most wave back. Some 924 owners don't wave at me but I don't take it personally, I think they just don't know. Boxster drivers almost never wave or flash but I am not offended. Hell, maybe they think I'm warning them about a cop or something.

Have a great day

Don't worry. What if you had a Toyota Camry? What would be the ratio then? I'd say atleast 200:1...and the wave you got wouldn't be because you both own a camry...

I think location has a big role to play here. I used to own a 1989 300zx and when I was in Chicago at most I'd get a highbeam or wave but when I was at school in Iowa I was guaranteed a conversation at a gas station from fellow Z'ers.

Please don't flash...makes me think there's cops around...

The only folks I see that'll wae are guys ina different kind of car as me (ie, not a 944) and one that's 10+ years old...Of course, a lot of the folks around here have some cash to burn and they heard that Porshka's were cool, so hell why not get two?

Flashing to warn about hidden speed traps used to be pretty common here in the USA. So common that many jurisdictions made flashing lights a driving offense!

I've owned P-cars for a long time and think the "HI" flash pretty much died out about 10 years ago.

Adrian,

When I joined the PCA I was told the Porsche salute was a thumbs up gesture rather than a wave. Have you missed any by looking for a wave. BTW I drive in a high traffic area where many clowns think a flashing turn signal gives them the right to run you off the road, so I have to constantly watch the traffic around me. I know I have missed replying to waves/salutes, but I assure you it wasn't due to snobbishness.

Somebody on the 911 list once said that they don't wave/flash the driver, they wave/flash the other car. Thinking about it that way, it doesn't bother me as much. LOL.

Of course, I wave at cows/animals on the side of the road too, so take it for what its worth...
