Nice! Looks like it's got most of the interior which surprises me...I guess they added that during restoration or were the Rothman's cars raced with the interior like this?

Checkout this one for sale in Switzerland. They are asking 28,900 Swiss Francs, which works out to less than $19,300. It is an '86 and apparently has a little less horsepower than the US/Canadian version. Looks like it has 39,000 km.

Here is a babelfish translation of the description:

[quote]Sport version, overroll bar mark of matte NR. 1480204, light alloy wheels mark Porsche 8 J x 16 mm in front, in the back 9 J x 16, tire in front 225/50 VR 16, in the back 245/45 x 16 Bridgestone RH 71, brake assembly kompl. Turbo Cup, hood in polyesters, with safety catch, running seat with suspender belts, very fast vehicle in excellent condition

Asaurus site (en francais)

If you don't speak french, i guess i could translate it for for you, but I don't feel like it right now (ok maybe).. I dunno, you could always run it through google or babelfish too.

The Porsche 944 Turbo Cup is a Porsche truly made for racing. This site only deals with the "racing" 944 Turbo Cup.

There is indeed a limited series (around 1,513 examples) that were produced in 1988 and were named 944 Turbo S.

It's a version of about 250Hp well equipped (climate control, power steering, leather, stereo, defroster, etc. for a total weight of 1400kg [3086.47 lbs]) of which the turbo of the time put out only 220 Hp.

In france, this special series produced 104 examples and were sold under the name "944 Turbo Cup". Easy to distinguish with the "Cup" emblem in the back of the car and above the glove box. Some were factory equipped with 290 Hp, but they are few in numbers.

These cars, with few options were pretty far from the racing version. To not confuse them, we call them "road" 944 Turbo Cup or better yet "944 Turbo S". This isn't the subject here. For more info [between the two] look here : 944 Turbo S/944 Turbo Cup

maybe i'll do more later.. ****! club944.net is down!! looks like the provider went bankrupt and cut services on them without notice.. That sucks! link

Wel, maybe not EXTENSIVE use of magnesium, but wheels/intake is more extensive than MOST!! Funny story..Eric of Steinel's Autoworks showed me a magnese intake he had for a customer, He got it from a Porsche dismantler. (I don't know which one) he ordered a 944 Turbo intake and the one that came in the mail had a funny color to it.. DOH!!! sweet!

At first I thought tha guy on E-bay was yanking our chain with Cup notion. You I put a cage in my car so it must be a race car routine.

But now that I have looked at th French site I am amazed. He really does have Turbo Cup car. I really surprized ther retained the interior.

Heck that Googgle translate really works.... Whoo hoo!

Several things...

1) That car has manual windows- I've never seen a window crank in one of these cars- also appears to have the regular 4x6 speakers- that kind of surprises me- the manual windows doesn't, even though they probably only save ~5lbs total...

2) The badge- I've seen a "Cup" badge on the back of one of these on a website, but it didn't have the "Turbo" in front of it- it almost looks like that guy found a "Cup" badge and stuck it on at the end- were they supposed to have the word "Turbo" there too? What about the color dif-"Cup" being in red? I've always wanted to get one of those, but no one seems to be able to find one- were they only released in France? Also, the interior badge mentioned- above the glove box- is it the same? Anyone have a picture of one anywhere?

3) The interior os this car- I assume he added te roll-bar, but, it's funny that he removed the seat backs, but didn't pull the bottom IMO, since he went so far as to ad the roll-bar, etc...

4) The strut brace- doesn't look very worthwhile. It doesn't connect to the struts at all. Anyone seen how much just the weight of the wheels will make the struts sway inward when lifting the car? I want a brace that actually wraps around the strut tops and connects to all four bolts, etc- of course, some race classes have certain restrictions...

5) The red color looks a little differnet- not sure what shade, but it really looks nice from these pics- I'm going to check out the actual page to see if there are more...

Thanks

The red car pictured in the thread is Turbo Cup car.

Hence the roll-up windows, prop rod hood and Matter Aluminium Roll Cage.

Aluminium Roll Cages are not legal for most racing and very rare. The cage he has is made by Matter and is OK for PCA club racing if the documentation is included to prove it.

The reason is that these cages came in the turbo cup cars.

Also the E-bay car has the Matter Roll Cage
