I second upgrading the wiring, that plus silverstarts made for a decent upgrade. I still want H4's but i do need the extra spill from the DOT lens when im in the middle of nowhere. This reminds me that i need fogs or driving lights.....

On my old 924S I bought some cheap autozone driving lights and the stock foglight switch and relay and they worked rather well. Definitely helped out on the rural roads.

I was curious if E Code lenses would not blind drivers with HID's in.

HID burners cannot effectively or safely be installed in optics designed to take filament bulbs; doing so results in improperly-focused beam patterns and excessive glare, and is therefore illegal in almost all countries.

Vehicles equipped with HID headlamps are required by ECE regulation 48 also to be equipped with headlamp lens cleaning systems and automatic beam levelling control.

From what I've seen HID's in ecodes do give a decent cutoff, but it does not cut down on the glare all the way like a projector does. I would not put HID's in any reflector lens on any of my cars as I think it looks like crap and blends in like all the ricer civics and stuff that run them and blind everyone. Put them in a projector and it looks much better and is the proper way to do it. There are some factory cars with HID designed reflectors but none of them would be retrofittable to a 944.

though, you will probably never mistake a HID set-up with one of those cheap bulbs

the only thing you will get is a little more light and a pretty color!

I don't agree that you need better wiring for HID's .The HID balast's draw only 30w that's at least half of what any halogen bulb draws. If anything they are safer than any halogen bulb. The upgraded wiring is needed only for 100/120w halogen bulbs. Don't get these things confused.

You are correct on that that they use less power.

I know, but it's all you really need. I think a 944 with HID doesn't look right. At least the "kits" I've seen.

I would have to agree. The Rennbay stuff will get you to where you want to be.

The Iceshark kit was the heat, and when Dan passed away, Travis picked up where he left off. It's a great kit and simple to install, upgrading very old wires.

Agree once again. I just bought a set of battery cable from Robby, who carried on Dans work in the battery area. He also does the harnesses which I'm looking into.

While it is true that they only pull 35W (possibly 55W) at normal operation which is less than a normal halogen, they pull much higher power during ignition than 35W so it is still recommended to upgrade your harnesses.

It's not that hard to make your own harness for cheap and any upgraded harness is pretty much guaranteed to improve your lighting over the factory. And you don't have to worry about melting things and then having much larger problems.
