Sunroof arm snapped (Early 944)
I can't post pics from my iPad so I will have to upload them another time but one of the arms that raises and lowers the sunroof just stopped working, the other is working perfectly.
I opened the assembly and found that the arm snapped at the nub that connects to the sunroof cables (DOG cables). It looks like pot metal so I don't believe it can be welded back. Local Porsche dealer parts department says the part is $400 because you have to buy the entire system (the roof mounted pieces which include the two arm assemblies and I believe a clutch or drive wheel in the center of the c-pillar.)
Open to suggestions...
Thank you.

Here are the photos I took
One photo shows the broken arm that I removed from the assembly. The other photo shows the assembly with the cover off. In it, you can see the cable on the left hand side - it still has a small piece of the arm where it snapped off attached.
As some have mentioned, this system is unique to the early (83-85.5) 944's.

It may very well be the same, as early 944's borrow heavily from the 924, but all the later 944's are different.

Some of you said you may have the parts. Based on the new photos, who has a match? More detailed photos will be a PITA because it requires taking apart the headliner again. This is the only piece in the system that is broken.

This is a very common failure on early cars....the Germans must have farmed out the sunroof design...it's ****-poor engineering.
In any case...pick up a working early mechanism for parts.
I did this on my old NA and the two times (in 5 years) that a part broke I was able to fix it.
It's a bit of a PIA but if you are handy/mechanically inclined it's a couple of hour job.

Great time to go manual latches. The early 944, 86 951 sunroof was a mess to work on. I got tired of stripped parts, limit switches messed up, track bars getting sticky, relays failing, etc. The manual SR conversion is just too simple to ignore but then agian, a lot can be said for 77 moving parts just to raise a sunroof 1-1/2", engineering excellence for sure.

Hi all,
I am being this thread back from the dead as I have the exact same issue. My sunroof arm broke and I am looking for a replacement.
let me know if anyone has one like the one above
