My understanding is that the chips don't really do much for the n/a's. My n/a is chipped, but it was like that when I bought it so I don't know what the difference was. Chips are supposed to REALLY help the turbos though. Guess I got it backward - chipped n/a and non-chipped turbo. Hmmm..... <img border="0" alt="[ouch]" title="" src="graemlins/c.gif" />

My brother's 84 NA has an Autothority chip, and that car seems to have quite a bit of pep to it. Excellent driveability and everything. It was like that when he got it also though, so I don't have much for comparison.
My S2 I got a "weltmeister clone" from a guy on the e-mail lists, and it did make a difference. Probably not more than 10 hp max but the seat of the pants dyno can tell a difference, it adds more low end and it seems even happier to rev above 4k rpm now. I paid $125 for the chip, but I would not spend the $400 some places wants for NA chips..you just won't get that much from it.

Supposedly the FR Wilk chip for the NA makes a day/night difference in low end torque and overall smoothness .. you wont pass smog with it, but who cares? Search for previous threads on FR Wilk.
I'll be getting one, myself.. provided some day my car runs for more than two consecutive weeks.

Yeah, I have the FR Wilk Chip. I noticed a very nice difference after it was installed. Keep in mind that the software he uses to get the extra power will not pass emissions and is not legal on the street. That being said he also sells dual chip setups which let you switch between stock and optimized chips so you can pass an emissions test. Midrange torque is what I felt increased the most. Peak horsepower may only be up about 5 or so but torque seemed to increase a nice amount over most of the rpm band.
BTW, I have only seen one unhappy FR Wilk customer on Rennlist. Upon talking with FR Wilk I found out that this customer was having trouble getting his fuel mixtures right at the same time and had many other unsorted variables at the time the car was dynoed. I believe the chip only gave him like 2.5 rwhp. However, no graphs were posted and there were no torque numbers either.
I would like to get to a dyno...but I just feel the money is better spent on suspension stuff at this point.

I have a FR Wilk chip in my Euro.
Better low end tq. is the most obviously difference. I'm very happy with it so far (less than a week).
As for emissions, the laws are quite different in Norway so that's not a problem. We have bi-annual inspections on older cars in Norway, but they don't do an emissions test.
