Default Will an S or S2 airbox fit in a base 944?

I don't want to run an open filter when i do the "S3" conversion on my 944 (1987 chassis). Will an S or S2 air box fit? It looks similar to the 968 air box. If not, what other options do i have?

The S2 airbox will definately not fit under the badge panel as it's too tall (and there's no air feed to it either). I'm not sure about the 944S one however (but imagine even if it did it might be more restrictive).

Somebody once used an S2 airbox underneath a 924turbo nosepanel (some cutting required) for a 968-motor swap onto a 1989 944. The website describing his experience is no longer active.

A common solution is to use a cone air-filter.

So the S2 airbox will only fit and function properly if I have a turbo/S2 front end? Maybe that can be another excuse to myself to get one.

Why not go with a 924T badge panel and put a cone filter behind it? That's what I did and it worked perfectly.

That would be the most practical, but I'm not really a fan of the vented nose panel look.

That's a shame, I think it can look great and saves the problem of an S2 front end not matching up to your original wings.

This isn't the best picture as it was just prior to the respray (lots of bits in gel coat or rattle can painted).

No offense to anyone. Just different taste is all. If it were my track car, I would totally do it. It looks a hell of a lot more functional than the original nose panel, that's for sure.

Is the turbo/S2 nose panel different from the NA one? For some reason I thought that the only difference was the bumper cover and fenders.

Also, isn't the 944S intake snorkel in the nose panel? The 944s have the same front end as the 8v, so assume that there should be at least some airflow in that area.

Yes the S air box is snorkel in 2 the front left side. The badge pannel on a S is the same as 944. The turbo/s badge pannel is slightly higher and 40 mm longer. I can't see why it would be so hard 2 fit an S2 box under there. Should be easyer then on a vented pannel as the vents are wield in and take up more room. I'm sure it can be made 2 fit.

Why can't you fit 968 air box and snorkel it 2 the front?

Will the 968 air box fit on the 944? I would be willing to do it if it is possible to do it cleanly. At least with the S2 airbox, if i have to do any modifications, it will be hidden haha

__________Like Joe mention your solution if keeping the 944 N/A nose panel is to cone, otherwise you'll have to craft an S2 or 951 nose on it,witch can turn out to be darn expensive. Those guys went with the cone options on a 944 & 924S.

Cone filters remind me of cheap intake mods . And I'd rather not be sucking in all that hot air in the engine bay. If anything, I can run a cone filter under the nose panel until a good deal on a turbo/S2 front end comes around.

I appreciate everyone's input and opinions.
