rear license plate bracket
hi everyone,
a friend of mine recently pointed out that the rear license plate on the 944 seems to sit very low - almost like it's resting on the lip with the porsche decal. i noticed it before as well, but it was just one of those "why the hell did they do that?" type of things. now it is driving me absolutely nuts.
so the questions is, has anyone done a mod to move the frame up so it is centered in the area between the rear tail lights?
thanks in advance!

944 play, that is exactly what i was looking for. fantastic.
a few questions though. after cutting off the excess frame material and drilling the new holes, is your plate now held on (to the bracket) by two fasteners?

led, is it possible to actually get euro plates here in the states?
i have seen a few cars around DC with euro plates, but i always thought it was something special.
one other question. my car isn't equipped with a front bracket - don't need them here in DE. are they the same front and rear?
thanks again!!

No, there was just enough room at the bottom (formerly top) to drill holes for self-tapping sheet metal screws. I extended the square holes and reused the plastic nuts for the upper screws.
AFAICT, my front bracket is identical to the rear one.
Front plates are required here, but I remember seeing a 944 in Petaluma (Burgundy, I think - belong to anyone here?) with the top and bottom of the front plate trimmed off, leaving only the numbers. It was about the proportions of a Euro plate and looked right at home centered in the 944's bumper.

944 Hooligan: I really don't know if the dmv issues them, I don't think so though. But I've seen at least one 944 with an euro style plate and a few other european cars. I'm guessing they're custom made at those booths in the mall where they put your name on everything. However, it'd be nice to get the real deal!

I've heard the reason the lic. plate rests on the lower lip is to give it a slight angle, so the lic. plate lights can better reflect off the plate at night.
I have the "some-people-hate-it,some-people-like-it" PORSCHE lens between the taillights, so I have a lighted frame that holds the lic. plate between the bumpers.

I drilled right through my license plate and used two long nylon bolts to mount the plate directly to the holes in the back where the bracket usually goes. This raised the plate and brought it closer to the sheet metal so it can be seen just fine at night,...ahhh... and it's lighter too!

My friend down the street has a Euro plate on his 01 VW Beetle (haha), it says "EuroTunr" or something similar, but no the DMV's don't issue them, he baught his from some place in Germany along with some Euro lights and stuff. He got a custom plate for the rear from the DMV to match his Euro one one the front. Well, if you see a 01 VW Beetle with a Euro front plate around the DC/MD/VA area its probably him.
If you all want to know where to get the plates just let me know and i'll ask him.

A friend of mine knows a guy in Germany who picked up my plate from the DMV (Or whereever you can get them. It's got all the stamps on it and everything, so it looks pretty damn offical (except for the custom lettering)).
I just used the front lisence plate braket and picked up a euro plate mount from the local BMW dealer (The Porsche dealer said Porsche didn't recognize german plates in this country and wouldn't/didn't have the part.)
Check it out:
