Replacing fuel pressure regulator

Replacing fuel pressure regulator
Summary: I want to replace the fuel pressure regulator on my '87 944 Turbo but would rather not pay full price for the Porsche-supplied part (which is about £100/$150). I'm not quite sure whether the current part has failed, but I'm getting lousy mileage and replacing the regulator seems to be the next thing to check/do on the list of things that might be responsible.
So can anyone tell me the part number of the (Bosch?) OEM equivalent?
Also, a bit of googling threw up a "Bosch 3.0 Bar Fuel Pressure Regulator" (http://www.jmgshop.com/bosch-30-bar-...turbo-36-p.asp), sold as a fuel system upgrade for a 944 Turbo. It's about half the price of the regular Porsche bit, but I assume that fitting this part would be a bad idea on an unmodified engine as it would deliver fuel at too high a pressure. Is that correct? And if so, is there a similar 2.5 Bar Bosch regulator?

Maybe read about it on Clarks:

FYI, I have read a lot of information about the FPR and a few mechanics will not use an alternate either a non OEM Bosch or an aftermarket. They say the wrong FPR will introduce other troubles. Bosch OEM ====best for a stock 951/944/924S.
YMMV

You should only bump the fuel pressure if you have modified the ECU to adjust the fuel maps as well, or it'll just run really rich in open loop.
the 2.5 Bar is a common part, check out this ebay listing:

You can probably get a box full of them at the breakers pretty cheap. Check your damper as well, and your AFM.
