Post Fire Extinguisher Mount Location

Hi -
I have an old BK Fire Extinguisher mount that fits in the stock passenger seat rails. I just bought some Recaro's and I don't think the mount will fit with those brackets. I've seen pictures of folks with mounts in the passenger footwell, like where an old cell-phone would be located. Does anyone have any ideas on where I could buy a bracket for that type of mount? Any other ideas on 944 mounts? I checked the archives and did not find any good info...
Thanks!

I have mine mounted by the passenger's left leg. Every passenger that rides doesn't even notice it, as half the time they are suprised when they look down and see it. IOW, it's out of the way.

not sure if you could access it easy enough but I've always thought under the passengers knees (running parallel to the front of the seat, just in front of the seat) would be a good spot. Only problem would be it would limit seat travel, but if you actually mounted it to the seat with some kind of bracket that would solve that. Although as you said, I don't know if that would work with the recaros.

Matt,

I like the location of that mount. What did you buy to do this and where is it mounted to? Are there existing holes there that you can screw into or did you drill your own?

The mount/strap came with it (the FE) from Performance (although I don't recommend Performance). There was an existing hole there from a PO who installed a cell phone mount. I used that hole, but I don't see why you can't drill your own. Make sure you drill into something solid, not just the carpet obviously.

IIRC, you have to have a metal strap to be "legal" for auto-x's and DE's. I may be wrong on that though.

Thanks,
Matt

check my Rennlist Gallery page FE Mount - I have a 5 lb Halon mounted BEHIND the passenger seat - easy to reach, and out of everyone's way. Oh, cost me $5 and 1 hour of time to make and install it.

I remember reading somewhere that it has to be a metal to metal mount to be legal. Not sure where I read that so I don't know how accurate it is.
