Post Porsche weekend @ Barber track (lots of photos)

Here are a few photos from this weekend's PCA DE event at the Barber Motorsports track in Alabama.

944s were in abundance.

There is no grandstand - all seating is amphitheatre style.

<img src="http://gallery.rennlist.com/albums/albun28/First_Turn.jpg" alt=" - " />

Barber is now the home of the official Porsche Driving Experience, so PDE vehicles are everywhere.

A small sampling of the Porsches on hand. These guys are about to start their run.

Where in 'Bama is that, and when do they schedule events? If it's not far I may make a weekend trip.

BTW, Geaux Tigers!

Hey I think I see my dad's S2 in that bunch! Great pics! He told me Barber isn't as fast as Road Atlanta but the turns are a blast! Man I wish I was 18...

If I were a member I'd post the pics my Dad took...anyone gotta spare 18 bucks? I just used my spare cash on gas

I knew that someone from here would be there!! I was working the corners all week end. I came home with a nasty sun burn but it was worth it to be standing 5 feet from a GT-3 car at around 100mph.

If you think turn 1 and 2 look cool, you should see the reverse corkscrew on turn 8 and 9.

Sean, there was a yellow boxter (#272?) there. Was that you??

Sean,
I was in run group 1 (Baltic Blue S2). If you were too, and in the yellow Boxster, I remember your car. I just got back to Memphis a few minutes ago. After I unpack, I'm going to upload the pics that I took (about 100!). I'm in the grid picture that you posted - in the middle with a black with yellow stripe Vette to my left and a red S2 to my right (Tom Boerger). Barber is SPECTACULAR! Most people in Birmingham are not even aware that it exists, but that won't last much longer. This was the greatest DE that I've participated in.

I'll post some of my pictures later...

Bryan, Yep - that was me. Hope I didn't do anything stupid! Tom Boerger had a camera mounted in his car so I tried to grid in front of him when I could. He got some great footage that he's going to send me. Were you in group 1? I don't remember encountering a red 951 in our group, but it's a fairly long track and there were a lot of cars...

Did any of you get emailed the video a guy took around Barber in like a 993 or something? My dad got it tonight and it's a really really awesome video. I'll get the link tomorrow and post it for ya.

Thanks for your replies.

More pics? Ask and ye shall receive.

This "hybrid" wide body 951 was fascinating. Regardless of what you think about hybrids (it's got a Corvette engine), the body kit of this car was stunning. And yep, it's fast!

<img src="http://gallery.rennlist.com/albums/albun28/hybrid4.jpg" alt=" - " />

Brian, sadly the yellow Boxster wasn't mine. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> I missed the signup for this event (Doh!) but plan to do the next one this October. The Barber track is 15 minutes from my house!

<img src="http://gallery.rennlist.com/albums/albun28/boxster2.jpg" alt=" - " />

Of course, plenty of 911s on hand too.

<img src="http://gallery.rennlist.com/albums/albun28/type911.jpg" alt=" - " />

This sign put it nicely.

Tye, sorry I don't have more photos of your car! Let me know the next time you will be going to Barber. I'll look out for ya.

Tye,
My car wasn't there. Its still on jack stands. I was actually flagging for the SCCA. Saturday I was on 13 and Sunday I was at station 5. I had on a green hat and a white long sleeve shirt. You might have seen me walking around during lunch on Sat with a green backpack on.

Sean,
I live in Alabaster. We'll have to get together somethime. I'd love to see your new dash. Hopefully I can get my car fixed soon. What all has to be done to a car to do a drivers event? I think that would make a kick *** birthday present.

Sean,

Thanks, I already have plenty of pics of my car. Great pics btw. What kind of camera did you use?

Bryan,

Sorry that I don't remember seeing you. The whole weekend was a sensory overload. I've never seen so many full blown race cars at a DE. I took several pics of Tom Egan's car -- pretty awesome! I had a GREAT time.

You guys ought to come up to Memphis for the DE in the fall (probably Oct or Nov - check <a href="http://www.pca-msr.org)." target="_blank">www.pca-msr.org).</a> It's nothing like Barber, but it's still fun and a little more laid-back. Also fewer and smaller run groups!

Regards,

Tye
