Default Interior car smell

What is the best way to make the car smell better? My GF describes the smell is old car smell. What can be done to fix the smell not just cover it up?

A complete cleaning of the interior. carefully clean seats and rugs. Check for dampness in the rug... Under seats... It can be difficult to remove stubborn odors without finding the cause, so that it can be addressed...

In all fairness, you should post pictures of GF first. We really can't offer the best advice until then.

1) Pull floor mats, clean back side too
2) Zaino Z10 "Leather in a Bottle" smells real good for your leather and vinyl
3) Make sure you AC drain is clear and draining

Just douse the carpet in it or what?

944s have a very distinct Porsche leather smell. My last car lost it when I had the seats recovered in vinyl... my suggestion is more leather.

I have heard of Charcoal and what not. I may try the vinegar deal.

My GF is the one who told me to pull the trigger on the car. So shes cool.

Spray bottle works better, but it's your car..

Judicious use is best, use enough to rid the smell... should leave behind a clean crisp smell...

Then odorize as you see fit... I am not a fan of "new car smell" because it just isn't, but the smell of fresh leather...mmmm pure sex...

It also makes a nice, cheap, window cleaner...

i hear baking soda does a good job of absorbing moisture and smells. i usually detail my interior cleaning carpet and using appropriate conditioners on the plastic parts to get a clean smell.

Airing out the car is a good way to make it smell better.

I love the old smell. I loved the old smell of my Jensen Interceptor. Oil, Gas, Leather and Rust. lol It was great. When people get into my 944 they like the old smell.

You can use coffee beans too. I wouldnt use rounds. Place some coffee beans in a vented cup under the seats. You can also shampoo the carpets.

A vanilla bean works too.

Regardless, you need to eliminate, or greatly reduce, the source of the odor.
