Don 944 LA

I recently replaced my blown transaxle in the 83 944 with a late 85 transaxle.

I have noticed that in 5th gear, I don't get any overdrive.
Is this controlled mechanically in the transaxle, or is it something vacuum controlled by the DME ??
I had robbed some vacuum fittings to fix the 951, and kind of just pieced things together on the 83 later after I swapped the trans in.

Sounds like you have a short fifth gear transaxle. There is no overdrive.

so an early 83 being lighter, plus manual rack, now short 5th gear = nice track car ??

If only it had the late high compression N/A motor...

the only overdrive you have is the fact that the 5th gear ratio is less than 1:1...
