Right now I am trying to figure out how to get the drive shaft to line up with the inspection holes through the tranny bell. I can't engage the clutch and turn it into position by hand. And have tried 'bumping' the ignition and letting the car try to turn over to see if I can trick it into lining up with no luck after about 20 tries. I know this isn't the ideal way to do it but am out of ideas. Probably will give my buddy the mechanic a call after lunch and see what he thinks.

Any advice much appreciated.
Put a 24mm socket on the front crank pulley bolt and turn the motor over until the couple bolt lines up as needed.

Thanks Tom,

Had thought about trying that next, have done it on a Chevy truck but was not wild about trying it on a Porsche until someone said been there done that.

No problem -- did you get the coupler off?

Unfortunately when I hit this little speed bump I got sidetracked on other things. Replaced the sunroof seal and transplanted the roof from the parts car. Did some clean up on the rear hatch area since I deleted the rear seats.

Then of course other things came up. Got 100 things I need to do before surgery on Thursday. Hopefully I will get time tomorrow after work to get the coupler off, maybe even get the tranny dropped.

The tranny is filthy btw, how do you guys recommend giving it a quick bath while I have it out? Was planning on a simple spray bottle of degreaser, a scrub brush and just a little bit of rinse water.

degreaser should work fine.

be very careful with the torx screws on the coupler. make sure to give it some solid hits to wake em up.

with the tranny out, might be a good time to change at least hit it with some polyurethane to remove the flex.
