Default Sunroof Questions

I am trying to get everything on my car working and operational. I just have the sunroof, a new stereo, and gauge lighting to go. The sunroof seems like its going to be the biggest job. So I have read the clarks garage manual on this. Here is where I'm at. I have voltage at the relay box. I also have voltage at the switch. I have two different switches and neither has worked. Then I looked out back and noticed no directional relays. I put in two 5 pin relays. Now when I try the switch now I think I hear a click noise, but there is no movement. Could my motor be shot? Is there an easy way to take the motor out and just test that?

One thing to check on the sunroof is whether the "tongue" at the front center of the sunroof is engaging the micro switch. If that switch is not engaged, the sunroof will not go up or down.

Could you tell me how I could maybe check that or maybe "jump" around that?
Are the directional relays just a standard 5 prong relay? I bought two generic 5 prong relay's at autozone or do I need the porsche specific ones?

Go to www.clarks-garage.com and click on the garage shop manual. It will help you diagnose pretty much any sunroof issue.

When I had sunroof issues related to that switch, I was able to put something in there to push the micro switch closed. That was before I figured out how to adjust the tongue. If you can get the roof panel out, that would help. Have you tried putting the ignition switch to pos 1 and pressing the sunroof switch? The arms should retratct at the rear of the panel. It will do this whether or not the the micro switch up front is closed.

So that micro switch only limits the roofing from popping up? I will put those relays back in and see what I can get.

Update. So I put in the relays again and started testing. I notice that the motor was getting no voltage. So I checked and sure enough the fuse was blown. I replaced the fuse and right when I put the relays back in it popped again. I noticed on Clarks Garage that it says something about 87 and 87a. My relays don't say that it just has two 87 terminals. I'm thinking maybe the relays I got are the wrong kind. They are universal relays that are 5 prong. Any ideas would be helpful.

Blower motor relay and I forget, one other under the fuse box under the hood are the same as the directional relays. Switch those with the directional relays and see if it works. If the fuse blows right away it sounds like your system might be shorted to ground somewhere.

Well I found out that my Sunroof switch that was in the car was causing the fuse to blow. I am missing the relays and the ones I bought are not the correct ones. I am getting some relays for the sunroof from a parts car that someone has on here and hopefully a new switch. I am pumped.

It is solved.

Look at clarks garage for troubleshooting tips. I would check to make sure you are getting voltage everywhere. Next I would try and adjust that microswitch at the front of the sunroof.

Stupid question, but is the motor even plugged in? I tried to get mine working which wouldn't until I realized the PO had unplugged the motor because they were too lazy to figure out how these things really work.
