Default chain Jangling noise fromo utside my window

as i am driving lately with my window down (no AC ) i have been noticing a sound that i think is coming from the back of the car but i cant place it yet, it sounds like a chain dangling loosely and every bump or curve i hear it.

Put it up on jackstands and see what's up. Offhand, I know that sometimes exhaust hangers can come off and rattle.

maybe there's a chain dangling outside your window? :P

sometimes there's no more help than "jack it up and see"

On my 928 I had a sound like that over the bumps. It turned out to be the center caps of the wheels. I just took them off and punched out the nibs a little bit more.

ok, the rattling was definitely the center caps, which no longer matter because I now have new wheels on the girl!

from a boxster, i got all 4l with a full compliment of rubber for $200, couldn't pas it up. Found out after the fact that even though mine is late offset, i still needed spacers for the front pair, so i spaced all 4 to make it even.

Sweet! Glad to hear you got it fixed, well sort of. Look at that, the knowledge from the 928 transfers right over to the 944.

Sounds like a great deal on the wheels. Spacer probably cost as much as the wheels. Looks good.

nah, the spacers were $11/each, they are presently the only known standard size anything on my car (@ 5/16th") space that i know of.

I am going to clean up my phone dials, replace/repaint the center caps and paint the wheels flat black and keep them as a spare!

I will admit noticing a driving difference between the original 15's and these 16 inch Boxster wheels, the car is noticeably top heavier around the curves, though i still stick to the road.

and my power steering pump now whines during any hard corner, regardless of the speed I'm traveling.

a coworker mentioned that i might need lug extensions to accommodate for the spacers, I am not certain that's necessary since i still got a very solid grip on all 20 lug nuts.

any comment?

also, should this change really make my power steering whine so much? or do you think its getting wore out?
