Who's going?

I'll be there with my brother this time, we're both driving my car.

Looking like it'll be a lot warmer than the last one, thankfully.

Hey Adrial,
My car is not ready yet but still I've been wanting to come check out what it's all about. I grew up in Wantagh and still have friends in the area, so I was thinking about taking a ride down this weekend to check it out.

How do they feel about spectators?

Can I walk around and talk to you guys in the pits or whatever?

I am a PCA member if that helps.

You can come by and stand and watch...nobody will care the least. You can't be on the "track" (specific part of the parking lot), but you can watch from the "sidelines".

Being a corner worker or whatever (cone watcher) is pretty cool, especially if you get a position at one of the more technical corners, which I didn't last time (first time).

Oh, and the pits is just another part of the parking lot where everybody parks...it's really quite informal.

Hope to see you there...Maybe we can get a rennlist corner going this time?

Hey Adrial, seems like you're always starting the topics about the NYC AutoX's Anyway.. yea I think ill be there again, with my new waterpump, front seals, rollers, timing belt, and helmet (my money is gone though). I was hoping to get my friend with his Acura RSX to come along but apparently he doesnt have the $30 to participate, bleh... maybe I can get my dad to come with his '95 Maxima ... that should be amusing. Anyway, hope to see you there again, and meet your brother, and see all the other Rennlisters coming.

Oh yea.. if anyone missed/is interested in seeing pics from the last one, check mine out here: Tobay Beach AutoX 3/17/2002

seeya

Hey John, check this page out for all the fun info: http://www.metronypca.org/autocross/StaticInformation/faq.htm

I believe you have to get there between 7:45 and 9:00 am. You need to put a number on your car somehow.. so bring some colorful tape or some washable window marker or something.. or borrow some tape from some Lexus IS300 owner like I did I think that's all you need.. oh and.. $20!

JVC, I highly recommend getting there on the early side so you can walk the course WELL at least 3 times. If you blow it off you won't know where you're going when you get on the course with the car...and then you'll go off course a bunch of times like me.

adrial,
Glad to hear that you took the autox plunge! Welcome to the addiction!

I can't make Tobay beach on Sunday, 'cause I'll be up at Lime Rock tomorrow and Friday for NNJR's first DE of the season, and my car will need a rest!

Anyway, are you planning on going to the April 21st NNJR autox at Englishtown? Hope to see you there!

And you gotta sign up for a Driver's Education track event soon: that's when the fun really starts!

-Zoltan.

PS: Remember me from the mid-winter meet? I brought my Subaru

I've never been to an autocross so I am thinking of going as a spectator - as long as the weather is okay. Last time it seemed a bit cold which is why I did not show up!

Zoltan, yeap definetely remember you.

I'm pretty sure I'll be there for the NNJR autox on the 21st.

I was planning on doing the upcoming DE, I forget the date, but I decided to wait until I have more experience with the car...so I'm planning on hitting up the DE's in june.

fpena944, I highly recommend you participate. I went w/o ever seeing an autox before and I found that it wasn't too hard to figure out whats going on. I'm more than willing to help you out...
If you go off course a bunch (like i did) an instructor can help you out...you just gotta ask and yee shall receieve.

whats to see. like the shoe ad says, just do it!

Peter L, they let you run in anything that can pass the tech insp. so do it in whatever you get there in.

Z, it warms the heart, doesn't it. see you on the 21st

Thanks for everyone’s advice. I'll definitely be getting there early and walking the course, as I'm sure I will go off course at some point.

Lets hope it doesn't rain. The weather forecast is partly cloudy as of today.

My only problems with participating are as follows:

- No helmet - probably not a big deal and I can probably coax someone out of borrowing theirs
- My car is a cabrio - aren't there special requirements for running such a vehicle?

they have loaner helmets there.. i got one last time... theres only about four of em but surprisingly most people have their own so you should be able to use theirs (and its free)

no special req for cabrio, just have to have your top up and both windows down i believe.. no rollbars or anything like that.. actually the miata there had its top down but thats because it had a rollbar i think, in any case, check out the FAQ page about it, but im pretty sure youll be just fine
