Anybody intending to run X-class should get there early..there's only 10 spaces unless they give some leeway like last time.

x-class = anything thats not a Porsche.

Ok ok, I guess I have been convinced.

I'm still a little freaked since I have yet to really push the car (I've only had it about 1 1/2 months so I'm still in that "babying" stage) but it's about time it do what it's supposed to!

So looks like I'll be there bright and early on Sunday.

Thanks for the encouraging words. Let's hope I do not complete destroy the track.

Actually I think X class is limited to 15 cars. So we both are wrong according to she who must be obeyed. And since she does timing she must be obeyed by more than just me.

Whoever thought he could get away without a jacket will be very sorry on sunday. Even if it is 40+ the wind chill will make it feel like 20.

Trust me on this. I've lived by the ocean all my life. it was 40 today, and i would have frozen if i was just standing still like a tall pine in the wind.

For all those interested in the AutoX at Tobay Beach you should get there as early as you can in order to walk the course, go through tech, put on numbers, helmets avail, nice people, yes you can take pictures especially if you are with me, bring warm clothing you can always take it off, food although there is a food truck there, we have helmets for loan, you can buy a helmet and try them on without shipping costs...Bieffe, and others, gloves, tees, numbers, VAS enterprises nice guy, Vic, and me Vince Ponz. By the way on the Rennlist Calendar are all the events by MetroNY. Great bunch of guys.
Getting there early means that you can put in air in your tires, get hints from some of the guys, talk to other like car owners.
Look for me I will be the guy with the camera and long lens. If you plan to take pictures have at least a 200mm lens and 200 and 400 film speed film.
Things to bring, maybe a chair, sandwich, air pump, white marking or shoe polish, suntan lotion, gloves, jacket, rain gear?, drinks, numbers or the white shoe polish, clean out the car of things not needed for the day, wash car, fill up with gas none available nearby, take Nothern State to the Wantagh south to Jones beach and around the circle and go east 6 miles to Tobay beach.
If you want photo instructions I will be there to help.
By the way no one took a photo of my 1979 931 Euro near the coffee truck, Why?

Cool

Vince didnt stress the DRESS WARM part enough, and thanks Vince for the pics from last years school.

I washed (with a bucket of hot water)& sorta waxed the aurora & 944 today. My hands were numb at 10:30. I warmed up, then used the sledgehammer on a concrete slab and was cold.

It will be a lot colder tomorrow standing still. Remember I live the same distance from the ocean as Tobay's lot, and I'm closer to the bay than Tobay. Trust me that the cool ocean breeze that makes this area a summer resort is not fun the other 8 months a year. I plan on wearing my long down parka with a fleece vest underneath.

Notice how much the stock suspension leans around those turns. It just made me order complete Koni Coilovers.

Well I showed up but unfortunately forgot about the time change so ended up coming in too late to participate.

I was quite impressed and upset by the fact that my car had to remain in the parking lot the entire time.

I also think those who spun out provided some pretty good entertainment!

Loosing it was fun too. I lost it twice in the same run. It does provide a solid way to determine what the limit is and how much you can really push it. The rest is cake.

fpena944, too bad we missed you..

There were 4 944 rennlisters there including myself...
Me, John (jvc951),Tom and Simon (operatorSX) with his freshly broken hood release mechanism/cable.

I dunno how but first 2 runs I went OC (thanks tom for finding out for me)...I think i missed the last set of cones..anyway I got an instructor and he didn't say a word and I didn't miss anything?? Who knows...

My brother beat me..hehe...his first autocross. He turned a 58.5 and won the class (3 cars, 4 drivers I think)..I did a 61.2 or something. I really "attacked" parts of the course one run and turned like a 62.5...was fun though.
Oh and I blame him beating me on his having more driving experience...er something...
I guess his line was just better/he had a better feel of the limits through some corners? Cause I know a bunch of em I didn't go all out...

I'll be at the April 21st autox (NNJR) and the june 29th autox school and june 30th autox by Metro. Hopefully Lime Rock early July...I think the 11th. Zoom zoom zoom...

Overall I had a blast...snapped a bunch of pics...couple no-sound movies (quicktime format...where can I get a convertor??)

What I found funny was all the "sports cars" sitting around not participating..
A coupla big HP supra's, C5 vette's..2 z06's...2 or 3 ferrari 360's (i think 3...), a testerossa, ferrari 328...

I didn't even think the mini cooper was available in the USA, but...we have proof that it is...

Hope to see all you metro guys make it to the NNJR event on the 21st!! I know Dave and Z-man will be there right?? If not I'm leaving NNJR for Metro.

well the autocross was even more fun this time than last time (especially since i had a jacket this time and never went offcourse)!

i actually improved throughout the day and my last run was my best run... never even hit any cones.. and i beat Adrial by .671 seconds, yay. but i do have that whole driving experience thing on him...

btw the times just came up:
<a href="http://www.metronypca.org/autocross/Autocross2K2/Events2002/Tobay4-7-2002/Tobay%204-7-2002%20results.txt" target="_blank">AutoX results</a>

so anyway, the Mini Cooper S kicked ***, i too didn't even know they were out yet in the US.. and to think the day before i was at the auto show in NYC sitting in one.

i dont think i can make it to the autox in nj.. too far away.. and the one in springfield is at a bad time.. and well.. i need to find some non pca autox events.. could be fun.

oh yea.. my stupid hood release is still non functional.. i think it broke under the hood.. great.. now i need to lift the car... which means i need to visit a mechanic. bleh. i guess the casualities could have been worse...

anyway.. anyone who is still debating on whether or not to go to the next autox should definitely try it.. definitely. i think i finally convinced my friend with his 02 RSX to come.. there was one there this time.. he actually didnt do much worse than myself after his first few runs.

great fun =] i leave you all with a pic of Adrial's 944 about to flip over, enjoy!
