Default Popping noise while accelerating

Got the car running right so obviously I wanted to open her up a little bit. At first I didn't really notice it but in 2nd and 3rd gear when I went wide open it sounded like it was coming from the rear. It sounds kind of like a bad strut mount would, but its not I don't think. The transmission was replaced last year with one that had 60,000 miles on it. It has an oil cooler for the transmission. What could this be?

CV joint? If it only happens under load and you have some "squat" in the rear I would look there.

aftermarket exhaust? i would look around the muffler and cv joint area, because it could be something like a heat shield making funny noises, or if you have an aftermarket exhaust, the axle could be rubbing on the exhaust piping...also, make sure all of your cv joint bolts are tight!

I will lift the rear up this weekend and check out all that stuff.

What tool is needed for axle tightening I don't remember.
