i still can't believe how much Tire Rack hooked me up a couple of summers ago, when i wanted to put a good set of rain tires on my car... saved me an obscene amount of money over the local tire stores.
i found a brand new 225-40-18 dunlop sp 9000 on local boston area craigslist. for pennies...
called tire rack and they seriously hooked me up... $ 530.00 including shipping for the following 3 tires.
1 - matching 225-40-18 dunlop sp 9000 for the front on closeout.
2 - 275-35-18s dunlop sp 9000 rear tires on closeout.
28 thousand miles later these tires are showing about 6.5 mm of tread remaining. it's ridiculous.

Just installed four Nexen N3000's and I think they are just fine, especially for the price!!! $350.00 delivered for all four. See my other post for pictures, not sure how to link to that post. Trust me, you will not beat that price for a ZR rated tire, good treadware at 340 and AA traction rating. I bought them because the BFG Potenza's are so loud that they turn your Porsche into a monster mudder on the highway. I four of them with less than 3,000 miles if interested and don't mind noisy tires. I paid three times as much for them.

they wore out nicely too
on my Audi 2.7T A6 I had Continetal Conti-something, can't remember, and they were allright, I liked Toyo Proxes 4's more, but that car is much bigger, with AWD and 2 turbo's ...

If you know that your going to be encountering snow and lots of it, then get a set of winter wheels and tires. That way, during the warmer climate, you can run summer tires and maximize the performance of the car during those days.
All season tires just guarantee me the ability to drive in COLD conditions. When it does snow, I don't drive or go out until the roads been plowed. Summer tires in the cold weather are just scary. My friend in his mazda speed 3 ran this past winter with his summer tires and he was sliding everywhere and couldn't find grip.
