I've heard that this will work, but I was curious what the details were.
Will any late model trans swap into an 83 944? Just leave the speedo unconnected? Thanks for the input.

Nevermind. looked up the code 7Q13037 and now I'm very suspicious. States that the trans is an LSD from 87? but 7Q is 1983-1985 as per Clarks-garage. Weird.

a late model trans will not just bolt in to an early; it is doable but you have to adapt it a little. not sure which type of trans mount the 924S has.
i have a 951 gearbox in my early car, had to make a plate for the early mount to bolt onto the passenger side of the trans case as my trans has the oil cooler on it

87 924S box is simple drop in replacement in an 83 944. This does get you a shorter 5th gear ratio which is good for track use.
The 944 box from 85.5 and later is different. That uses differnet mounts and the electric speedo. It will still work, but you need to swap the mounts over.
