Default Want to confirm my color code.......

Hey guys the color of my 944 is Kalahari Metallic right? I know you laugh but cannot find the code listed on the stickers on the car and need to order a can or two of touch up spray. Would rather be safe than sorry.

See quote below from dmw44 on 03-11-2005:

"I have an original showroom brochure for the 1986 944, which includes all of the interior/exterior color options. It shows option code Y4, Kalahari Metallic.
All of the metallic colors were an extra cost option. There were 5 standard colors: Black, Pastel Beige, Guards Red, Copenhagen Blue, and Alpine White.
There were 8 metallic colors: Zermatt Silver, Crystal Green, Garnet Red, Sapphire, Stone Gray, Graphite, Mahogany, and Kalahari.
Hope this helps."

Look in the spare tire well for the color code.
You'll also see what options your car was manufactured with.

Also look for a tag next to the fuse and relay panel under the hood. Towards the centerline.

The hatch area options sticker is generally visible if you just unsnap the carpet, no need to look under the tire. It's by the LH tail light (unless it's gone missing.)

Do you have the original books that came with the car?

LH tail AND RH tail light areas checked no sticker.

There is a manufact sticker next to the fuse box under hood drivers side but none of the numbers on it match paint codes I found on this site:

What does the tag by the fusebox say? On mine I think it lists the color by code and name (in German.)

Mine says:
39V 9 3 MS
Irisblau (metallic?)

Iris Blue is L39V, I think the MS is the blue/gray interior code.
You would be looking for Y4 or LA1Y or maybe just A1Y?

There are some other beige colors on the list, like this one:
MANDELBEIGE Q5 or LY1Y or 60Y

You can give the VIN to Sunset Porsche and they will give you a detailed report on the car including paint code and options from the factory.

I did not see an online VIN decode service on the Sunset site, but I did find one on the SUNCOAST site if anyone else needs it:

http://www.suncoastparts.com/category/VINDECODER.html

Hopefully I will get mine back from them by Wednesday and I will post the results here.

Ok, I forget who exactly does the decoding, but you have to e-mail them your vin and they e-mail you back a report. Takes about 3 days to get back.

EDIT: Just checked and it was Sunset Porsche in Sarasota, FL that offered the VIN report for free.
