Get adjustable suspension up front

Lowering springs

Adjust rear spring plates

Reindex the torsion bars

Delete torsion bars and get full coilovers on rear

Any of those/combination of those options will do.

The easiest is to get lowering springs in the front from weltmeister, paragon sells them. Adjusting the rear spring plates will lower the rear by .75 inch. Any more and torsion bars have to be re indexed to get 1 to 2 inches or more. Certainly cheaper then full rear coilovers.

Go with coilovers front and rear. It's the only way you will really be able to achieve the look and have the easy adjustability needed to fine-tune how low you want the car to be.

And if the look is what you are trying to achieve then do it right or go home! Just don't complain when your handling characteristics turn to ****!

I might be wrong (correct me if I am) but in order to do coilovers in the rear of an '83, won't a complete late rear end need to be swapped in?

P.S. ^ doing it right!

Ah, yes that is true. However I think I read a topic about a build-your-own type of rear coilover kit for the early cars, starting with the QA1 coilover kit.. however I am not certain.

Lower it an 1½" in front & 3/4" in the back this way you won't have to drive a wheel barrels around but a car that you will be pleasurable to daily drive.Look is not always what make a 944 on of the best handling car on the road even by today standard.Exemple my ex 83 944.

The weltmeister springs are the way to go. I have a set on my car, and they look "tastefully lowered", not "slammed" though. If slammed is what your going for, you might want to look at coilovers in the front. the weltmeisters lower the car an inch and a quarter in the front.

IMO if "slammed" is what you're going for, maybe this isn't the car for you.

May I suggest a (real) Volkswagen?
