Default hauling spare tranny in rear hatch

Does anyone know if a spare 5 speed tranny will fit in the rear hatch with the rear seat folded down? I will be towing the entire car so I could even tilt the front seats forward if need be.

I would think so.

They aren't that big.

Yes, it fits. Just be certain to secure it as best as you can, because it tends to roll around. BTDT.

I put one in the trunk of my BMW. Just make sure you have some way to keep it from rolling around. Also you can lift it by yourself, but be carefully putting it in the hatch. The hard part is reaching in deep enough with the weight of gearbox. Easy way to hurt your back. Best to have a friend help.

If it is still dirty it will stink up the interior of the car pretty bad and linger for a while. Also - if it rolls around and the hatch is closed it will probably break the hatch glass...

It will fit, be gentle getting it in though. 944 transaxles are fairly small.

If it has an oil cooler, youll need to prop it with wood and prevent it from rolling at all.

Take a piece of cardboard or towel to act like a "bib" to cover the rear body when loading/unloading, just in case you drag the heavy SOB against the body.

I had a 930 shortblock in the back of the old 951 once... never underestimate the capacity. Engineered to hold golf clubs per Ferry.
