Are oil pan bolts "wet"?
i.e., do the threaded holes for oil pan bolts break thru to the crankcase, or are they blind holes? I ask because in chasing down a nasty oil leak, it appears the culprit is the DS oil pan bolt next to where the pan goes around the crank was loose. It was leaking this much in a week and a half while parked at night. (Looks bad but in reality it uses less than a quart a month)

He may or may not have that, on an '86. I know my S2 has that, likely because many S2 parts came right out of the 951 parts bin, but I've seen an '87 NA without that particular bolt.

Thanks for the responses!
With the sand and dirt that is everywhere here, any oil on the underside quickly picks up gritty stuff, except where there is actual fresh oil flowing. This particular bolt was spotlessly clean but wet, everything around it was covered in grit. If the bolts were wet, that would explain it. I see a bunch of white crap was used on the oil pan gasket (Sikaflex?) and it looks like a desparate attenpt to seal it without complete removal (thanks, PO!).
I tightened the bolt, we'll see how it goes. I'm "sort of" relieved it's not the RMS! An oil pan job in the car is no treat either...
