Got my first 44 out of ‘Wheel Deals’, Local sheet, advertised as an ’86 Turbo. Was an 85.5 N/A. Records were written on the back of his Police rap sheet. Told his pregnant wife I’d swap a minivan for it. Stole it from him for being a jerk. Moral of that story – read between the lines and be flexible. Next one was off ‘Autotrader’, long distance, over a long time span of getting a handle on the owner, and requesting lots of pictures. Had everything I wanted but was a bit neglected, pestered him till he gave up. Stole it from him because he was broke. Moral of that story – Car worth waiting for is worth waiting for. Overall, know what YOU are looking for and WHO you’re dealing with. Next victim is probably reading this now. Always have my eyes open for a 25k car in the 7k range from a knowledgeable enthusiast on hard times. Seller beware

The car looks great. It sucks that I'm in Kansas City, MO right now so I can't just go and check this out anytime it would be an ordeal to check it out. I might have my brother and dad go check it out. My dad has had a few 944's and 924's. He knows his way around the cars. I have had a 924S and I know the quirks of those cars quite well. This car looks like a great deal. I just don't know if I have the cash to throw at it. What does everyone think as far as the stats and price goes? Good deal or Bad Deal?

It looks fairly decent to me and has been calling me but I'm a slacker and maxed out on projects. A couple of observations 1) no miles mentioned which makes me think its over 200k. 2)I see eurotrixtuning and an aftermarket (downgraded) air induction.
On the upside, the battery cover is still present and those are almost always lost. 16 inch Fuchs, may be worth up to $800 alone. Appears to be unmolested.
SWMBO hasn't forgotten the last time I went to "just look" at a pcar... Bruce

Can you get options from a VIN number?

I believe this is what you meant?

Bottom-fishing rarely pays off. $1200 cars are usually not a bargain compared to a $4000 car that has been better maintained. Mechanical stuff on these cars isn't really expensive to fix if you can do it yourself, but body & paint are thru the roof on any car these days.

the 951 never came with a rubber centered disc. period.

what are you looking to get out of the car? daily driver? weekend fun car?

be prepared to spend $$$ when the turbo itch hits you and i guarantee it will. once you realize how much power the car can make as easily as turning up the boost and a chipset you will blow big $$.

if you want a car to be easier and cheaper on maintenance buy a nice S2. still 200+ hp better gearing in the trans, just as fun in the twisties. good luck!

Is buying a car off ebay a bad idea? Give me some tips. 944 turbos are not too common in my neck of the woods.

buy a ****box shell, fix the car, blueprint the engine...

get your turbo parts from Lart, add new turbo. $ 30-40 K. share photos.

1. it's really not breaking the bank and

2. you'll know everything that's going on with the car.

3. you can bottom feed with all the other parts that continually go bad.
