Post CUP Wheel size question

Popular question, but this one is more specific than those in the archives that I saw.

I may step up to 7.5x17 and 9x17 cup 1's

Should the tires I consider be the factory:
225/45-17 and 255/40-17

or max out the reccomended sizes with those rim widths:
245/45-17 and 275/40-17
(these tires are a both bit taller but close to each other in circ. and readily available from many manuf's)

Suspension is stock turbo S, so I feel like there would be no clearance issues with the stock coilover and rolled fenders.

Would the wider tires add anything as far as driving experience, or only take away the crispness of the suspension in transitions.

It would be cool to max out the meat on there, but are wider wheels like 8.5" & 10"'s the best for this(probably so, but they ain't in the budget). What would you guys do?

Cup Ones are pretty heavy. You sure you want to do that? The 993 Cup's are much lighter.

Well, they are factory 968 wheels, so not nearly as heavy as Mille Miglia. Heavier than clubsports of course, we'll see. Cup 1's will look better I think, we'll see. Anyone got a picture of them on a silver turbo.

OK, that makes more sense. The 968 Cup 1's are not as thick as the 911 wheels. I've got a book on 968's with pics of the wheels on a silver 968. Looks sharp.

This photo is a photo of a photo out of a book (confused yet?). Accounts for the less than optimal quality.

Sorry, only thing I could find.

I had Cup 1s on my first 951 and still think they are the best looking wheel for the 951. Mine were powdercoated yellow on a black car... Not the most stealthy, but cool track wheels.

I ran 255/40-17 and 275/40-17, and had no rubbing issues. I went to 235 and 255 on my next set, and thought they worked better with the wheels. More of the available contact patch on the ground.

I also owned a set of real cup wheels in 17x8 and 17x9.5... Boy would I like to have those back.

Another query for the board:
Would these centercaps:

fit

Is this what you were looking for? My 88 TurboS with 7.5/17 and 9/17 polished C2T 225/45 & 255/40 AVS Sports, lowered M030, etc.

The rims were polished by the PO - fortunately not chromed - I've since added painted alum wheel centers.

I borrowed a set of painted C2T wheels (silver grey OEM) and thought the car looks better with the polished rims.

Thanks for the pic, that is what I am going with in a few weeks. Anyone else know if the "turbo" caps will fit in these wheels, Tom?

Thanks,

Jason

Jason, I was told by others that these TURBO "dished" caps should fit the C2T wheels. Ask the vendor if the OD = 3" and the diameter across the "prongs" is 2.25" - they should fit.
