If the repair will cost $675, you might as well give him the cash and call it a day. Don't forget, you probably have a $500 deductable that you'll have to pay anyway, so for $175, is it worth risking having your rates go up?

If you and your accident victum agree on a price, have him sign an agreement of cost of damages to CYA. Give him the $$ and move on: it's the easiest thing to do.

I just love the way these insurance companies are always on our side. (Insert tongue in cheek!)

No offense taken, but I just hate it when people say a car is junk and not knowing anything about it...

I get that all the time about my 944 from other car boards & friends. That the 944 is junk, its slow, etc...

None of them have had one or can know about the experience. I didn't want to have to defend the Probe over here too!

For the heck of it, here is a pic or two of the Probe i am defending here (with some porsche parts too hehehe)

911 Spearco upgrade intercooler (eBay score!)

Well that one looks OK.

The funniest thing about the Probe is its name! How did they come up with that one?

So,spacecowboy, what's it like to probe a probe?

Agreed, the name is horrible It came about with the concept ones in the 70's it was supposed to be all space & futuristic and it was kind of like space probe as the term was used alot back on the day.

Too bad for a car, the name is incredibly lame.

I agree! Any car name that brings images of a wearing a hospital gown and inserting devices in certain body cavities scares me!

Yep, the Mazda MX-6 & 626 share the powertrain with the Ford Probe. All built in Flat Rock, MI.

The top half of my engine is from an imported Jap Spec engine.

From 1993-1997 The US & Japanese GT engines were 2.5 litre, 24 valve, 4 cam, all aluminum V6's, forged crank, 2 piece block all in all a great platform.

From 1989-1992 they were 12v turbo 2.2 litre's.

Its even more exciting when you design & build your own turbo system & try to cram it in to a second generation (1993-1997) Probe

icat, I know that hit and run is "supposed" to be not considered against me but I have such a deep distrust of the insurance companies that if I turn this in now and have a "my fault" claim later I still think that they would hold this one against me then, with possible rate increase or being dropped.

You know what it's like living in tornado alley.several years ago we had a rash of hail claims for a couple years and rates went up a good bit, so I'm a little gunshy.

spacecowboy, I didn't say they would go up $19 a month I meant if they go up more than $19 a month you have defeated the purpose of filing such a small claim and if you have another larger my fault claim that one would be your 2nd and you would kick yourself for your 1st claim being so small.

I think alot of the distrust has to do with the agent. I've always made it a point to have as much as I can insured with one agent/company. The agent is SUPPOSE to be on your side - and I've switched agents within State Farm when I didn't get the treatment I felt I should have. When you've got 4 cars and your house insured, they tend to be a bit more concerned with keeping you happy than if you only have a single car. Not right, but just the way the games played.
