Post How much for this 968?

How much should a 93 968 with 90,000 miles go for that has no chips, garaged, seen no winters go for? It needs nothing. someone price this for me please. asking price is $15,900.

That seems like a fair price to me if you're certain everything is perfect. Get a PPI done anyway, they'll probably find things wrong with it. If it's still perfect, offer the guy $15k.

This sounds like a reasonable price to me.

At 90,000 miles it may be due for a change of belts. Also, the 6-speed 968’s had a problem with the pinion bearings, so see if the replacement work has been done.

Also, you would do well to budget an extra $1K or 2K for immediate maintenance costs.

Be sure to take it to a good Porsche mechanic for a pre-purchase inspection. If you are in the Charlotte area I would recommend contacting Dan Middleton at touring Car Imports in Matthews, NC 704-821-7023.

Best of luck.

I think $15 is a fair price. I would also try to use the PPI results in your negotiations. See what needs to be done (90k service, tires?, cap&rotor?, brakes pads/rotors?) and adjust your bid. Be aggressive.

Have you seen/driven the car yet?

Obviously everything depends on condition but after seeing a thread on rennlist where many 944 na guys admitted having 10k-20k aftair repairs 15k sounds very reasonable. I have a 968 myself and love it. I have driven 944 na and they do not have near the power. I have driven 951's and they were a lot of fun but I felt like they would have more repairs for around the same power. I ended up choosing the 968 after a year of looking at all 3. Goodluck. If you get the 968 come join us on 968.net also.

be diligent, you need to see service records and a timing belt recently, the pinion bearing is a major issue, check it out. Then offer 14, why not?

he had the pinion bearings changed at 83,000 miles and clutch redone. time for belts though. this guy is in CT and I'm in NC but if $15k or less is a good deal I'm going. sounds like this guy is needed to sell because of an impending move. I think it is because he has no job.

Sounds like a fair price, depending on interior & exterior cosmetics, & small stuff like tires. Negotiate! One DOHC-specific issue not yet mentioned here is the cam chain & tensioner.

The really big bucks terminal failure mode seems to be kinda random, but wear problems seem to show up on the tensioner ramps around the miles you're looking at, so budget a little for inspection & replacement. If you're getting a PPI, it's fairly simple to do a visual inspection of this area... pulling the cam cover isn't real hard, and my origial 65K mile gasket was still supple enough to re-use.

Having owned an '88 na for six years and a '94 coupe for the past two, I will say that my 968 is more prone to nagging little problems than the 944 was... it just ran & ran. The 968 always needs some (usually) minor thing. This is just my one experience, so I'll refrain from drawing any sweeping conclusions from it.

Driving-wise, tho', it's a whole new world of power compared to the na... <img src="graemlins/bigok.gif" border="0" alt="[thumbsup]" />

lehtola,

I live in CT and, if the car is not too far from me, I would be willing to look at it and advise you of a shop to get a PPI done. I'll be happy to help you if I can.
