Hey slevy, do you have to put 8" Punch Z's in those footwell sub enclosures, or could you put in, say, a Punch HE? It has the same (0.3-0.5) enclosure volume, but has a bit more power handling. I'm looking to put some bass in my 944, and I'm torn between putting a 10" in the spare space or an 8" in the footwell (I'd like two, but I can't afford $400 
).
I don't need huge thump, but I definately want my sub to keep up with the 4 40-watt RMS 4x6" Blaupunkts I plan on putting up front...
Just in passing, I've heard people mention putting in 6x9"s in the rear by removing a "bracket" behind the trim. This isn't on the 1984 944s, is it? I don't remember seeing a bracket...Because that would be lovely.

i have 2 10 in my spare tire well. i built a top, divider(so it is 2 chamber), and one wall. the one wall if for the side closest to the front. then i put these peices in and sealed it up. the spare tire well makes the rest of my box. i had to use about 2 tubes of coulk to seal it up good though.

tsw, those door speakers look very clean. Do you have any more pictures? Perhaps of installation? I don't want a separate tweeter, but I'm wondering what would be involved in modifying the door to except those 5.5"s (hopefully not a lot of cutting). I've seen other jobs around here that look not good, so I figured I'd just go with a pair of (or set of four) Blaupunkt PCxi462's...Alls I would need would be a spacer.
What do you have in the rear quarter panels? (Nice DeLorean, too, btw).
Oh yeah, and I have an amp mounted in the place for the spare tire--it fits with the spare (there's room to take out/put in the wheel). It's running at 2ohms, and it's a complete POS, but I've never had heat issues or anything. Someone asked about this...

this is the only other pic i have. i am kicking myself for not taking any pics of the install.
my car had no factory speakers in the door panels, so i had to cut my door panels. i also had to cut a small peice if metal on the driver side. the passenger side hade cut outs (in the metal) for 4x6. i positioned my speakers so the magnets would fit in the 4x6 cut outs.i didnt need any spacers or anything for the speakers.
i have a pair of infinity 5 1/2 two way speakers in the rear quarter panels.

I prefer the Z just cause it's cheaper. The HE is a lager driver and takes up more space on the inside. I can also go with a JL 8W0. That's the driver that works really well here.

My design is great for jass, classic rock, '80 rock, some alternative, classical. Pretty much everything but rap. It'll do rap, just not real well. I did one for a guy who was running one sub off a 35x2 Kenwood amp bridged and just the front 4x6's off deck pwr. It doesn't take much to fill the car with sound. It sounded great for just 3 speakers. One of mine will have no problem overpowering all of your 4x6's with about 100w put to it.
