Jim, a friend of mine got a good deal on an 86 4000 quattro (with the tag 'QUATTRO' in NC), and after owning it for a year and throwing it $2000+ just in parts (he's a mechanic I used to work with), he's considering calling it quits... And that's not characteristic of him trust me, he's owned numerous ****boxes before, you name it old american/subaru/vw etc. etc.

Two other people I auto-x with invested in BMW 325s instead, one's needed a water pump, the other ball joints in over a year. I think that'll be my next 'beater' once I can let go of the 944 NA (powersteering broke last night!).

I have to say though, both me and my friends with the bimmers like something about that audi, just can't put it into words!

I scanned in the article, here is a link to the pics. Beware, they are large files.

I clicked on the link and I got an error at the page. It said that I was not the owner of the pictures and did not have access to them.

Tim, THANKS, great article. I remember reading that when it came out, and at the time could only dream of ever owning any of those cars. Funny what a couple of decades can do
