Painted my rims dark gray using Rustoleum "Stops Rust" enamel. I have painted several motorcycles using this paint. Very strong, holds up great against rock and gas.
Just sand, clean, mask, paint with a couple coats.

Huh, haven't thought about that paint. Do you have any pics? I don't have access to the sandblaster and don't want to drop the $$ on one at Harbor Freight just for this project.

Does using the paint gun vs the can make any difference?

Dont worry about buying the expensive one for this job, something like this will work.

Here's what I did to mine. 3 years ago and still holding, a few scratches here and there but they still look good.

Just got done painting mine on the 83. It is white and I went with graphite because I liked doug's so much. As good as they look on his black car I think that color will really stand out great on a white car. Will mount tires tommorow and post some pics.

The hose goes into a bucket of abrasives and sucks the stuff into the gun.

You need to supply the compressed air, the higher the better.

Oh and here is a picture from 944fest with the new paint on the rims.

I don't usually like phone dials but these photos might be changing my mind. Some of them look pretty great.

Bulldog24, I have a sand blast cabinet and we are in the process of painting a set at the moment. I will post pictures when they're done.

I love this thread! I was thinking about doing this myself recently, but I wasn't quite sure how to approach it. I've seen wheels being painter with a spray can, but I didn't know how well it would turn out. Seems like it does a pretty good job haha!

And fourtysixandtwo, do you have any more pictures of those wheels on your car? I have a red [not guards red ] 944, and I was originally thinking black rims, but those white ones look nice!
