Hello everyone,

I am a new 1983 Porsche 944, I purchased it as a project car to maybe have it complete in 12 months but I have not been able to take my hands of it.

I am stuck on the air conditioner. It blows hot air while the car is running next to the gas pedal, when I turn the air on it continues to blow hot air through the main vent and next to the gas pedal.

I need some advise before I continue.

Thanks

Welcome to our obsession/insanity

I believe there is a clip that breaks somewhere in the dash that causes what you describe. Do a search, you should be able to find it. Sorry I cant be more helpful, it hasnt happened to me yet

Pictures of your car are always welcome!

I just repaired this on mine. Of course I rigged the temp vavle to constantly stay shut and am awaiting a new glove box to restore it back. anyway! The parts are available from Porsche. Cheap too! contact a dealer and any good parts guy will know what you are talking about. If they seem lost PM me and I will shoot you the part numbers. I work at a Porsche Audi dealer and have easy access to the info.

Check to make sure your cable is hooked up to the heater valve. It is located between the engine and firewall towards the top. A lot of times when someone works on speed sensors they knock the cable out of the valve.

Yes, this is an early car. No heater clips. No nonsense. Just a simple cable connecting to the heater valve. The cable probably got disconnected and the valve is in the full open position. No big deal to fix.

The 83 is the best 944 ever made!

nice, sounds like maybe you could help me with the same (similar) problem? My a/c doesn't work. whenever the car is running hot, with the fans on or off, set at any temperatrure, this happens: hot air leaks from the vents into the cabin making any drivers/passengers sweat profusely!

if you could direct me to the clip you speak of, i might be able fix this sauna!

thanks guys! that's the problem. the clip was chipped and the metal rod had slipped out. i put the rod back in the clip and it holds... for now.

however, now the heat cannot be turned on via the dial. could this be a separate problem? the heater "door" that is opened by the metal rod opens and closes very easily when i do it myself. and fuses seem okay. thanks for the help so far on this.
