Post Need advice & inspection of 968 in Lancaster, PA

I live in Seattle, WA and am considering buying a 968 in Lancaster, PA at the Ephrata Auto Connection on Rear Manheim Pike road.

First I'd like to know if this is a reputable place. Second, I will want a comprehensive vehicle inspection to check for wrecks, any paint work, engine, interior, driveline, tranny, etc. Does anyone know of a place that could do this for me? I won't be seeing it before buying, so I will be relying on this inpsection.

Thanks VERY MUCH!!

Boy, you'd think you could find a 968 a bit closer to home. There are quite a few in this area, or possibly down in CA, but you haven't found any? Seems odd. Good luck with it.

It's hard to find the black/black/black in a '95 ... so I'm hoping this pans out. I just called the Autohaus in Lancaster ... apparently they can do an inpsection.

Any other ideas would be appreciated ... like what are the weak links of this car I should have checked out (e.g. Timing belt, etc.)?

thanks

There are many car dealers in that area, as it is a HUGE center for car auctions in the east coast. I'd be wary of a 968 at auction-why would it end up so?

I was told that many people who want to get rid of a vehicle and not hastle with selling it take it to the auction ... do you think this is accurate? I have little experience with this ...

Thanks!

The pinion bearing (I almost capitalized it) is the monster in the closet for 6-spd 968's.

In general, you should head right over to

968.net, especially their discussion board, for lots of 968 info.

STOPPPPP!

There will be close to 50 968's in Hershey, PA at the swap meet next month. I'd bet that some of those will be for sale. So if you are going to come all that way, at least coincide the trip with the swap meet.

(they are staying at the Hilton Garden in Hershey on Friday April 19th - check out www.968.net)

This one's got the Tip tranny. So I should be ok ... I will check out 968.net ... I really appreciate the tips guys! I may try to make it to Hershey too!!!!!!

I will want to increase HP of the car ... so any tips on doing this would be great --- can you chip a 968? K&N? Exhaust? I had a 944 Turbo before and loved it ... nice car!

Lancaster is about 5 miles from here. If you want me to take a look at it, let me know.

I'm not an expert in the least on these cars.. I'm still looking for a 951. I should be able to find anything visually wrong with the car and make a note of it if you'd like.

Also, if you give me a list of things to look for I can look it over and jot them down.

Let me know what you want to do,
Nick

Wow ... that would be great!! It's actually at a warehouse behind the Ford dealership. You can let them know you're taking a look at it for me.

Ephrata Auto Connection
1485 Rear Manheim Pike
Lancaster, PA 17601
Phone: (717) 278-2117

Please let me know what you think. I'd like your opinion on overall exterior paint & body, overall interior condition, tire condition, does it look like it's been wrecked, engine cmpartment. Let me know what you think ... would you buy it? It's a '95 black/black/black.

What do you think about the Autohaus for inspecting it mechanically? Are they good? Reputable?

Thanks -- I owe you big time!

Gregg

I live in Lancaster County, few minutes from ephrata. The place I go to when I can't do it myself is Heistand Automotive. They specialize in European cars. Its fun to just look around in the parking lot, so many Porsches. Here is the address and phone number:

734 Conestoga Avenue
Manheim PA 17545

Ask for Chuck!

I'm sure Autohaus will be fine, I've only gone to the dealer to talk to their bodyshop guys. Pretty arrogant people.

If you need any other info for out here feel free to email me.

I agree with that 100%. As long as you have the car checked like you are then you should be safe.

The manheim auto auction is probably one of the largest car auctions in the world. Look it up on the web. Its HUGE!!

You'd be FAR better off starting out with a 6-speed to begin with.

What do you mean 'much slower than a tip'? Do they de-tune the tip? I'd like to get around 300hp --- not 500hp. I'm hoping there's a reasonable way to get this. Some people suggested PowerHaus or Kelly Moss Racing --- I'll try to look them up on the web.

Thanks!

We're not talkin' BMW SMG II here. [quote]I'd like to get around 300hp --- not 500hp. I'm hoping there's a reasonable way to get this.

The only way to do this is with forced induction, either via supercharger or turbo. As to "reasonable" it depends how much money you wish to spend. The most reasonable solution may be the Huntley Racing supercharger kit when development has been completed for the 968. Derrek has a system for the 944S2 and the 968 should be very similar, with a price in the $5-6K range. [quote]Some people suggested PowerHaus or Kelly Moss Racing

If you go with either of these, bring buckets full of cash. Neither one has a supercharger kit that I'm aware of and their turbo installations run in the $20K range.
