So you know how there have been ls1 and 968 engine swaps into 944's? would it work for the 3.2 v6 from the volkswagen r32 into a 944? I don't know much about cars, just wondering.

Would definately take some ingenuity and probably some audi parts. R32 has a transverse set up, not sure if there are actual bolt holes in the block for a longitudinal mounting application.

Once a year (more or less) I post my dream swap -- the 2.0T VW/Audi motor, tweaked up to about 275HP. Or wait a few years and source a new 2.5L 5 cylinder turbo from the TT-RS.

seems like a lot of work/money to end up being barely as fast as a stock 951 and definitely slower than ls1 or even an lt1. would be a cool conversation piece, but that's about it. in my opinion.

Yes.. but it is incredibly unreliable. I do not know of anyone with a VR6 turbo that is trouble free.
Now a supercharged VR6 is way easier to do and more reliable.
That project is still ongoing is it not?

Any VR6 is unreliable. I was dead set on doing a vr6 swap at around the same time vonov was starting his, and after helping my brother work on his two VWs (both vr6) countless times, I decided I hate that motor and I don't want one ever.
The bottom ends are stout as can be. Overall a bitch to work on. Lots of engineering below the level of Porsche. IMO the advantage of a vr6 block over a 944 block comes at power levels which 99% of people do not actually want to get (i.e. pay for).
How about a 1.8t? Simple little engine, iron block, good for huge power.

I have to agree with Greg, VW and Audi used both motors so there are alot more of them available. Being a VW Audi tech I can say there is very little that can go wrong and everything is usually easy to diagnose. I would go 2 litre turbo first. But make sure to check the cam and the high pressure pump.
