Default Rear wing mounting question: what I did today:

Ok, so I bought this honking banana wing cheap. I was thinking to mount it at the same height as the top of the car, to minimize frontal area, and far enough back so the hatch will clear. Here is a picture:

I was thinking of using the mounting holes for the licence plate to mount a plate with ears for the uprights. If I drill out the holes for large bolts, and maybe add a plate inside so the forces are going through the hatch and bumper hoops, I oughta be OK, yes?

Real problem is I just can't bring myself to start drilling holes in the sheet metal, even now. Sigh.

Comments?

looks like a racer to me- who did your rear flares? They look pretty good.

Race or street? Interesting question. The car was driven to DE events. Right up to the point where the front sway bar bracket failed and put me in the fence going up the esses at the Glen.

The goal, to quote the GT3-RS factory video, is to make a track car for the street. No R tires, no lexan windows. Ginormous tires and brakes, (Milledge) chip, cup suspension/camber plates, 5-point harness, Hajny roll bar. Who needs HP? I can't drive the HP I have now. The comment I get most often from instructors is "off the brakes, on the gas". I am very smooth, and slow. On instructor figured I could come to a complete stop in the corner. Mind you, when I do get on the gas, I walk away from the 911 behind me coming out of corners like the exit of the bus stop at the glen. Bury the throttle and wait for the boost to build as you exit the corner.

Right now I have a street alignment, and need to make a tool to get the rear toe in spec. I was running -1.75 degree front camber as a street/track compromise.

The rear fenders are steel grafts. Done by Ben's autobody in Brooksdale ON.

Any comments on wing mounting?
