O.K. Jai,
Since you do not have your location listed I am going to assume that you are in the states. If in fact you are, all states have some sort of regulatory body governing the ethics of auto repair shops. While I would use this as a last resort, You need to consider contacting your local or state agency. If this moron who calls himself a mechanic didn't notice anything for the ten minutes leading up to this disaster, then the repair is out of his pocket, not yours. I cannot believe that he didn't SMELL anything, or see the white-hot header. This guy is just trying to get over on a nineteen year-old who he sees as a mark. STICK UP FOR YOURSELF. Get someone you respect and trust to go with you (read older). Go get this a**hole to pay for his blunder.
